Introducing Our 2021 Summer Interns

JULY 6, 2021
Since 2015, Duquesne Light has hosted interns each summer to provide valuable
experiences to students while seeking their insight on a variety of projects across the
company. This year, we’ve welcomed 33 interns from several universities across
many disciplines. While the majority of our interns are working remotely, they’re staying
connected through events, such as group volunteer activities, a Pirates game and
a networking breakfast with company leadership.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll introduce each intern through a three-part
series. Read below to learn more about a few of our participants in the 2021
Summer Internship Program.

NIKITA BARGAJE
In her role as Intern, Credit and Collections, Nikita Bargaje’s favorite project so far has
been reviewing customer suspense accounts by analyzing their submitted checks.
Nikita became interested in DLC after she learned about the company’s “great
internship program,” which includes mentorship, as well as various events and
opportunities for participants. “I’m looking forward to meeting with my supervisor more
frequently and gaining hands-on training in projects,” she said.
In the future, she hopes to work full-time for a few years after graduation, before
applying to a Master of Health Administration program.

DYLAN COYLE
Dylan Coyle, Intern, Customer Contact Center, was drawn to intern at DLC because of
the company’s important role and distinguished reputation in Pittsburgh, where he was
born and raised.
Dylan, a student at Mount Aloysius College, has assisted various teams so far this
summer, including Major Accounts, Credit and Collections and Billing. Tasks he’s
worked on include:

• Compiling the daily pull of information from Power BI

• Using CCB to study critical customers
• Developing employee incentives
• Gathering pulse meter data
“I look forward to continuing to go into in the field with different members of the Major
Accounts group. This allows me to get a hands-on feel of what happens at Duquesne
Light, while tying it together with what I’ve learned through the Contact Center meetings
and projects,” Dylan said.

MARK FICO
As a Mechanical Engineering major interested in a future in the electric industry, Mark
Fico, Intern, Energy Engineering, is working with The Efficiency Network (TEN) this
summer.
Mark has participated in many different projects and gained hands-on
experience. “Every other week, I’m in the office training and helping with engineering-
related tasks. If I’m not in the office, I’m in the field helping to manage projects that
are already under construction,” he said.
Mark shared, “I’ve enjoyed project management the most so far because
I’ve helped with construction projects at the University of Pittsburgh, where I go to
school!”

GRACE FOWLER
With prior experience at nonprofit organizations, Grace Fowler, Intern, Corporate
Giving, was interested in further exploring Corporate Giving. She noted, “I wanted an
internship that would enable me to work in this area, specifically using funds to give
back to the community by investing in people and projects that are making a
difference.”
In her internship, Grace evaluated Community Impact Grant proposals and also works
on letters of intent for charitable giving.
In the future, Grace hopes to work full-time in Corporate Social Responsibility or Social
Enterprise, either for a corporation or nonprofit.

KAELIE GOSS
Kaelie Goss, Intern, Accounting and Reporting, is a rising senior at Pennsylvania State
University.
So far, Kaelie has helped with tasks such as account reconciliation and tying out and
preparing various reports. Her favorite project involved assisting with the preparation
of reports for the FERC, senior level management and investors.
“The experience of working with two teams has given me insight into various aspects of
the accounting world and is helping me decide which type of accounting I want to focus
on in the future,” Kaelie shared.
In the next few years, Kaelie is planning to earn her CPA certification and attend
graduate school.
JACOB HANSSEN
When Jacob Hanssen, Intern, Clean Energy and a student at Dartmouth
College, saw that DLC was searching for an intern to join the External Affairs team,
he saw the position as a way to gain valuable experience in his multiple fields of study
by “working at the intersection of governance and sustainability.” Jacob shared, “I study
government, economics and the environment, so the chance to work in a department
that handles regulatory strategy, government affairs and clean energy was
an amazing opportunity.”
Jacob has various responsibilities, including:

• Researching and generating reports

• Assisting with sustainability projects
• Producing related content for different audiences, such as legislators and
customers

His favorite project so far has been “working to build out both internal and external-
facing webpages on clean energy for DLC's employees and customers.”
Jacob is looking forward to meeting more of his fellow interns throughout the summer.

BRIANNA JOYNER
So far this summer, Brianna Joyner, Intern, Legal Services, has assisted with
reviewing contracts for sponsorships and community outreach projects, NDA’s and
more.
She applied to DLC as a second-year law student to learn more about corporate law
and because she “thinks contracts are fascinating, and there is always something new
to learn.” Her favorite project has been drafting an agreement for a community outreach
project.
Brianna “wants to use her law degree to not only uphold the law but make a difference
for others.”

ROBERT LENKO
Returning to DLC for a third time, Robert Lenko, Intern, Corporate Applications Robotic
Process Automation, is working alongside his team to “create automation (bots) to help
DLC employees spend their time on more valuable tasks rather than repetitive and time-
consuming ones.”
He’s happy to return for another summer and has been involved with innovative
projects. “My favorite project is creating a bot that reads hand-written sales tax letters
and captures all information correctly from a hand scanned image. After scanning, the
bot takes this information and completes the proper sequence of events to process
the letters for DLC customers,” Robert shared.
Robert is looking forward to making processes easier for employees across the
company.

GLORIA MOON
Preparing for a career in technology, Gloria Moon, Intern, IT Business Solutions, is
happy to join us for the summer. Throughout her internship, Gloria
has worked with various groups across the company, including assisting the Robotic
Process Automation team with documentation. She shared, “another project I've been
working on is with Kronos history and data warehouse. There’s a large amount of
data saved in the database that needs to be analyzed and documented. I’m
also working on a BRM dashboard in PowerBI.”
Gloria also noted, “One thing I love about DLC is the company culture.
I enjoy hearing the helpful and unique safety messages before every meeting. It really
shows how each employee is thoughtful and caring of one another. Diversity, inclusion
and cultural messages also show how friendly and welcoming the work environment
is.”

JOHN PISCITELLI
John Piscitelli, Intern, Cybersecurity, has been helping his team with asset management
projects, authentication objectives and policy updates.
Later in his internship, he’ll also work on suspicious emails and software vetting.
“I’m looking forward to learning more day-to-day activities throughout my
department and getting to work on projects that will hopefully make an impact even after
my time interning here comes to a close,” he said.
As someone who grew up in the Pittsburgh area, he knew Duquesne Light as a
“reputable company” and applied for this role because he was looking for experience in
his major.
After college, John is hoping to continue in the Information Security field.

JOSH ROUSER
Josh Rouser, Intern, Supply Chain and Procurement, applied to DLC because
“the company does work that’s crucial for the city of Pittsburgh and surrounding areas to
thrive.” Within his field, he's “interested in supply chain and procurement because of the
wide variety of opportunities.”
In his role, he’s worked on RFP projects, IT Renewals and tasks in Maximo.
Josh is looking forward to gaining more experience throughout his internship.
