English Club
the English Club. You see, I’ve always wanted to join an English Club since grade 7. But back then, I had
already joined another extracurricular activity without knowing they were on the same day. But I did
actually join the English Club though, in my fourth semester. The club wasn’t as active but I took my
chances and I almost got to teach the whole club. Keyword: “almost.”
I wasn’t serious about English as a kid but in junior high, I came to the realization that I was only
going to review what I learned if not less. And that I had ultimately better textbooks as a kid with shiny
papers and better-looking characters. And featured literature that are not just exclusive to Indonesia.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my country but we could’ve had textbooks that showed us classics, like
Gulliver’s Travels. I mean, my textbook did just that. And we also dove into the fun parts of English, like
making poems and doing plays. Alas, from my sheer disappointment towards the English textbook, I’ve
developed a passion for the language, somehow.
I had a friend back in Junior High and he was a figurative butthole. However, he’s very fluent at
English and it ties in with the fact that he lived in America for two years. So, we became somewhat of a
rival. I hate to say this but he indirectly encouraged me to study the language more. And well,
So, I started reading books, writing stories, and winning arguments in my head in English. And I
noticed that my personality changes slightly whenever I speak English. I become more cynical.
So, I started writing stories, reading books and winning arguments in the shower with English.
