After reading the two articles, (all interesting and heart touching), I have like the story

entitled “Fear and Loathing in America”, by Hunter S. Thompson. Thompson in his

article that was published in the ESPN.com, an electronic media, describes the sorrowful,

disastrous, and one of the world’s worse men made disasters, the bombing of the World

Trade Center. This unfortunate event claimed the lives of over 20,000 innocent

Americans, in just over nine hours.

Thompson could compare the September 11th, 2001 with any other disasters the US has

ever had, not even the ‘Battle of the Antietam’ which left 23,000 thousand Americans

dead over a day [CITATION Tho21 \l 1033 ]. He describes the disaster as a world-class

disaster, “anything that kills 300 firefighters is a world-class disaster” [CITATION Tho21

\l 1033 ].

According to Thompson, it wasn’t Bombs nor nuclear missiles that rained death of

Americans, but rather four American piloted commercial jetliners, later became death

flights, bringing down the world’s most famous tower, the World Trade Center. He

describes this as a war that may be far from over, involving many countries, and

religions. This he said, “we are at war now—with somebody—and we will stay at that

war with that mysterious Enemy for the rest of our lives” [CITATION Tho21 \l 1033 ].

Throughout his article, Thompson wrote with bitterness and agony of what happened and

that he was able to witness. He writes, “Nothing—even George Bush’s $350 billion “Star

War” missile defense system – could have prevented Tuesday’s attack, and it cost next to

nothing to pull off” [CITATION Tho21 \l 1033 ].

He ended by describing how the war to capture Bin Laden would be difficult and costly.

Why was this story most touching

This story tells of the most horrifying event ever I have known on this world. The tens of

thousands of deaths in just one day, the agony, the suffering, and the misery, inflicted on

the people was beyond what my heart could hold.

This article has the won my heart because of the nature in which the writer of the article

presented his story. This narrative has been very emotional to me and even while I read

through the article, at one-point tears dropped through my little eyes. This tells us of the

power of narrative to win hearts of many people as some individuals and powerful figures

have used narrative to win people’s hearts. For example, politicians use narrative to lure

followers; celebrities use it to tell the stories of their lives, and social change makers to

describe the horrible experience of certain groups.
