NUR-922: SCHOLARLY IMMERSION III: PROJECT COMPLETION AND MENTORED PRACTICUM

Module 1 Group Activity (Group 3)

OVERVIEW

Working in groups of three or four, you will develop a set of data tables and figures. The mentor will
assign the groups and related data/exercises. Utilizing APA guidelines for displaying information, each
group should:

● Choose the most appropriate method(s) and correct format(s) to display the data provided in
each example
● Describe why this format is appropriate for the data provided

You will be assigned a group forum in Moodle that you should use to collaborate within your group. Upon
completing the assignment, each student must submit a copy of the final document to the assignment
submission link in Moodle.

GROUP 3

1. A study was conducted to evaluate the amount of time nurses spend completing a web-based
mandatory in-service program. Time spent was rounded to the nearest 5 minute interval.

2. Using the Minimum Data Set, a study was conducted to examine independent and dependent
variables associated with insertion of a urinary catheter in extended care facilities.

Residents without a catheter: 1,063,306

Residents with a catheter: 65,112

UTI in last 30 days – without catheter 8.9%; with catheter 18.8%

Average age < 65 years – without catheter average 52.8 (SD 3.7); with catheter average 52.7 (SD
4.3)

ADL scale – without catheter average 2.9 (SD 1.5), with catheter average 3.9 (SD 1.0)

Pressure ulcer in last 30 days: without catheter 7.2%; with catheter 34.3%

Receiving antidepressants: without catheter 50%; with catheter 45.3%

3. A survey was conducted to evaluate physical activity among recent immigrants in Newark NJ.

College education: average 490 minutes (SD 25)

4. A randomized, controlled study was conducted to compare three treatment approaches for healing
chronic wounds in person with Diabetes Mellitus.

Group 1: number of patients 69, Age: Mean 57.1 (SD 10.8), BMI mean 32.8, (SD 6.9), Type 1 DM: 3;
Type 2 DM: 66 ; wound duration mean 36. 2 weeks (SD 38.1)
