Journal Information
Caldasia, continuously published since 1940 by the Instituto de Ciencias Naturales,
Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Bogotá, Colombia), is a peer-reviewed, open-
access journal that publishes both online and in the traditional printed format high
quality articles in diverse areas of tropical biology and conservation. Most contributions
published by Caldasia are comprehensive studies from northern South America, one of
the most biologically diverse, yet poorly known, areas in the world. Caldasia publishes
two issues per year that are distributed in more than 200 academic institutions and
universities around the world. Articles are published in English or Spanish, and are
reviewed by at least three international scientists before acceptance. Members of the
Editorial and Scientific Committees of Caldasia consist of outstanding researchers from
countries around the world including Argentina, Denmark, France, Germany, Mexico,
Netherlands, Peru, Spain, USA, and Venezuela. The name of the journal is a
patronymic honoring Francisco José de Caldas (1768–1816), the first Colombian
naturalist who devoted his life to Science as well as to support the independence of the
country from the Spanish rule.

Caldasia is published by the Instituto de Ciencias Naturales, Facultad de Ciencias,
Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Bogotá, Colombia). The Instituto de Ciencias
Naturales is the main biodiversity research center of Colombia and hosts the largest
biodiversity collections of the country, including the National Herbarium of Colombia.
