A blaze of fury burned vigorously in my broken heart. | could feel my warm tears
rolling madly down my face. Oh! What had | done wrong? Every step of mine was
planned carefully. No mistakes were allowed to be made. However, my efforts went
down the drain. | was rejected by the university despite my excellent SPM results. No
more future, no more dreams for me. | ran away from home hoping to seek peace as
well as consolation and mend my broken heart.
Finally, | reached a small fishing village. The gentle sea breeze softly dried my
tears while the tranquil shimmering sea gently alleviated my pain. Not far from me |
saw an old man hugging a child about one year old. The child resisted his hug. He
pushed the old man away and wanted to get down to the sandy ground. The old
man grinned and let him down.
The beauty of the serene, picturesque village was reflected in the sparkling eyes
of the child. | found hope and great determination in his dazzling eyes. He didn't
know how to walk yet. However, he tried very hard. He fell down again and again but
his great determination didn't fail. The old man gave him a hand to help him walk
more steadily. A smile then brightened up the child's face. Although his steps were
still unsteady, he could soon walk without the old man's help.
Suddenly, the child lost his balance and fell to the ground with a thud. The old
man quickly ran to him, But before he could reach his side, the child had stood up by
himself and continued tottering. The old man noticed me. He put ona smile and told
me, "Well, look at my grandson. What a tough boy! Do you know what the most im-
portant thing in life is? It is not being always firm and never falling but it is the cour-
age to stand up again and continue." He then patted my back and left.
Yes, | finally understood. Life isn't a smooth, straight path; not a bed of roses.
Although | had planned my steps carefully, unexpected barriers would crop up there.
Only with a strong determination could | overcome them.
The dying rays of the pale red sun shimmered on the sea whispering that the day
was coming to an end. Nonetheless, | knew that it wasn't an end but a brand new
start for me, to stand again and never give up.
