All drawings shall carry a unique reference number. This reference number
consists of six fields: Stage Code, Contract Number, Sequence Number and
Revision Letter.
Where drawings form part of a group, each drawing shall use a unique drawing
number, but the words ‘sheet __ of __’ should be added in the title block of each
drawing contained within the group.
If sheet numbering is used, each sheet shall have a unique drawing number and
a unique CAD file name. Each drawing shall contain relevant notes to identify
the corresponding drawings.
For a drawing set where it is essential that a single drawing number is used for
multiple drawings, a single CAD file name shall also be used. All drawings
contained within the ‘set’ shall have a common revision letter and issued as a
complete set. This method of numbering drawings shall be agreed with the
Employer prior to implementation.
Contract Number
Stage Code
1.2 Stage Code
Stage Code shall be a single alphabetic character for all drawings except
Document submission. This code represents the stage in which the
drawing has been produced, and for some drawings, it will identify the
originator.

M Manufacturing/Fabrication Drawings
CONTRACT C-2101
Following a change in the stage code from ‘D` to ‘W’ the revision field shall
continue in the alphabetical sequence following on from the last issue of
the Design drawing.
Contract Number shall not exceed eight characters (omitting the letter ‘C’).
The Contractor shall propose his own subject/type code to help identify
particular types of submissions.
1.6 Revisions
Subsequent changes shall continue beginning with the revision letter ‘A’ to
‘Z’. The letters ‘I’, ‘O’ and ‘Q’ shall be omitted from the sequential alphabet
revision letters to avoid any confusion.
CONTRACT C-2101
Revisions shall clearly described in the revision box and identified by a
“cloud” on the drawing where applicable.
The revision field entry used in the drawing number shall correspond to
the revision letter used in CAD file name.
The 2-revision letters will be permitted once the revision letter reaches Z.
The sequence after Z, is AA, AB, AC...AZ, BA, BB, BC...BZ, CA, etc.
2. Types of Drawings
Working drawings are developed from design drawings that have sufficient
detail to fully describe the Works and adequate to be used for construction
or installation of the Works.
Site drawings and sketches are drawings, often in sketch form, prepared
on site to describe modifications of the Working drawings where site
conditions warrant changes that do not invalidate the design.
CONTRACT C-2101
3. Issue Status
The Issue Status shall be located at the lower right-hand corner slightly
above/next to the title block so that it is visible when the drawing is folded. The
Contractor shall clearly specify the issue status on the drawing for each
submission stage.
