EXERCISE 20

When pupils find it difficult to established a relationship among the

numbers given on a sample, they should try to subject the numbers given
to mean, mode and median statistical operations. Mean is the average of a
given set of numbers, it is obtained by adding all the numbers together
and the total will be divided by the total number in the set. Mode is the
number that occurs most in the given set of numbers.Median is the
number that is in the middle when the given numbers are arranged in
ascending order. When the middle number is odd, the median is the
number in the middle but when the middle number is even, the two
numbers in the middle are added together and the total will be divided by
2. The following exercises are used to illustrate statistical operations.

Mixed operations with squares of numbers may come in different forms.

Two numbers may be added together first before the total is squared to
obtain another number in the sample, two numbers may also be squared
individually before adding them together. The same procedures may be
encountered with cubes of numbers, pupils will be exposed to these kinds
of operations in this exercise.

EXERCISE 26

Squares and cubes of numbers may be subjected to various manipulations

in mixed operations. In this exercise, pupils will learn that squares of
numbers may be multiplied with another number or added to another
number. The pupils will also learn that squares of numbers may be added
together and another number may also be added to their sum. Pupils
should think of various manipulations that may be applicable to
operations of this kind.
