Bible Reading: Genesis 39:1 – 10

Topic: Beware of Destiny Destroyers /Killers
Text: Genesis 37:18 – 20

PREAMBLE: The Oxford Advance Learner Dictionary defined destiny as what happens to
somebody or what will happen to them in the future, especially things that they cannot
change or avoid.

The Yoruba people will call destiny “AYANMO” or “AMUWA OLORUN”.

The word of God also confirms that God has plans for us before we were born through His
sovereignty. This can be regarded as destiny. Example is God’s plan for Jeremiah before
he was born. Jeremiah 1:4-5.

DEFINITION: Destiny is a divine decree, fate, fortune, lot, portion or future. It is a pre-
determined and life time – event.

Everybody have destiny. For example:

(1) Moses was to deliver Isrealites and be their law-giver. This was fulfilled.
(2) God sent Jonah to Nineveh and preach against it.
(3) Jesus came to reconcile human beings to God, to be light to us and saviour of all. All
these he fulfilled.

DESTINY DESTROYERS: Destiny destroyers are people (Genesis 37:18 – 20) or things that
will not allow ones destiny to be fulfilled. One needs to be aware of them. Examples are:
(i) Devil
(ii) Sin
(iii) Greed. Cain and Abel; 4:3-7
(iv) Lust of the flesh
(v) Pride of life
(vi) Love of money
(vii) Lack of self control (Gal 5:16-19)

HOW CAN A DESTINY BE DESTROYED?

(1) By disobeying God – Gen 3:2-4 (Adam and Eve)
(2) By committing sin/transgression – Gen 39:9c (Joseph and Potiphar’s wife)
(3) By minding earthly things/flesh - Phillipians 3:18: Heb. 12:16 Gal. 5:16-21

EXAMPLES OF PEOPLE THAT THEIR DESTINIES WERE DESTROYED:

(1) Eli’s kingdom – I Sam 2:27 – 30
(2) Esau’s birthright – Hebrews 12:16
(3) Reuben not excelling – Gen. 35:22; Gen. 49:3-4.
(4) Samson was destroyed because of his lust for Delilah – Judges 16:3-4; 16 - 20

EXAMPLES OF THOSE THAT THEIR DESTINY COULD NOT BE DESTROYED

(1) Joseph refused to sinned with Potiphar’s wife Gen. 39:7-9
(2) Daniel continued to pray to his God against the plan of his enemies Dan. 6:1-10
(3) David refused to be discouraged by his brothers’ comment and fought Goliath I Sam
17. He also refused to kill Saul by himself and eventually he became king. I Sam. 24:3-
7. (you can read further 8-22)
(4) Jesus Christ knowing the glory before him submitted to the will of God. Mathew 26:39

HOW TO FULFILL YOUR DESTINY:

(1) Always do good – Isa. 38:3. Hezekiah reminded God of his good deeds
(2) Be patient – Ps. 37:7
(3) Be upright – Ps. 37:37; Gen. 22:2-18 (read 2-3, 9-10, 15-18)
(4) Meditate in the word of God always . Jos 1:8; Ps 1:1-3
(5) Trust in the Lord – Ps. 37:3; Ps. 37:5

CONCLUSION:
It is not too late for you to be what you could be. Destiny, your destiny, mine destiny,
cannot be changed.

There is one destiny that is common to us as Christians and that is to make heaven. How
prepare are you to fulfill your destiny by reigning with Christ in heaven. Don’t allow things
of this world to destroy your heavenly destiny which is to reign with Christ in His kingdom.

PRAYER POINTS
(1) Father make me to fulfill the destiny of my life
(2) Every delay in fulfilling my destiny should be removed.
(3) O Lord my God, grant me the grace to fulfill the destiny of reigning with you in your
kingdom

NEWSLETTER

All glory to the Almighty God for His mercy and grace upon us and for His mighty hands of
protection as He alone helped us to complete this term successfully.

We appreciate our esteemed parents for their love, care and support. God Almighty will
continue to bless you all in Jesus mighty name (Amen).

Our Achievement:
Through the grace of God, support of our esteemed parents and selfless efforts of both the
teachers and pupils of Divine Ini Oluwa Schools, the management and staff organized a
Fruits Day which was a huge success. It was an interactive and educative programme
whereby we learnt many things through our pupils’ presentation. We appreciate the
parents that were in attendance.

We are re-informing our parents that the tracksuit is available for the pupils. It is now
Wednesday uniform. We implore our parents that are yet to get for their wards to do so.

Dress Code:
We are pleading, dear parents be conversant with our uniforms. Monday – Lemon
Shirt/Blouse, Tuesday & Thursday Orange Shirt/Blouse Wednesday Tracksuit and Friday
Orange Top. Any pupil that come to school with different uniform apart from the above
mentioned for each day “will be sent home”. The shoe and socks should be black! No
sandal and no white socks. “Uniformity is our watchword”. Let us also adhere strictly to
the school hair style.
