Dear Parents/Guardians:

I wanted to make you aware of a situation that happened on our campus this morning.

After a search involving an unrelated incident, campus administrators at Ben Barber Innovation
Academy discovered a gun in a student’s backpack. Mansfield ISD Police quickly responded to
the situation and confiscated the weapon. No one was physically harmed, and the discovery was
not made inside of a classroom.

Please be assured that providing a safe environment for our students and staff will always be our
top priority. We take these types of situations very seriously.

The incident has been handled, and the student in possession of the weapon has been arrested
and charged with a felony.

We encourage you to talk with your child about our policy about bringing unauthorized objects
to school for any reason. Also, please urge your child to confidentially tell an adult if someone
has an item that concerns them.
