The roles of CALL in the era of New Normal

These past few months I see we’re no longer panic about the Covid-19 pandemic and
that’s mean we are already adapting to the situation that known as New Normal. The
pandemic really gives us a hard time on every aspect especially on education, not only in
Indonesia but also all over in the world. Computer Assisted Language Learning or known as
CALL helps us a lot to going through the hard times these days.
CALL is a learning method that uses such a technology, and with our technology
development we can be at ease. Before the pandemic we used to doing old school learning
face to face but now we have a chance to upgrade our self by adding technology to the
education system. Todays learning activity is limited because of pandemic, like face to face
learning must be changes to online meeting and I think it’s really messed up. The teacher
must figure out the right learning method to maintaining the students spirit or interest to
studying and the other side, the student tired of it because some teacher not used the right
method.
We can say that CALL have a big role in this situation or the era of New Normal. It can
helps us as a teacher to find a right learning method so students didn’t lost interest to our
learning activity. We must take an advantages from the technology development, or I can say
we can milk it. There is so many application, websites, forum, etc. that we can get
information or resource from it.
With this CALL we can expanding our learning distance, from just one university to
two or more. We can achieve that with the online meeting conference like Zoom or Cisco
webex. We can do a file share to many people with forum, Reddit as a example. In the end I
think CALL can be additional or can be added to our current education, but as a replacement?
I think we’re not ready yet.
