Example 3: Shipping Electric Ovens


(Transportation Problem)
Major Electric Company is the leading supplier of electric ovens in the country. The ovens are
produced at its two plants, and then shipped to its three warehouses. The East Coast plant can
supply at most 450 ovens and the West Coast plant can supply at most 350 ovens, with almost
similar production cost per oven at each plant. The demand of ovens at the first warehouse is
150, at the second warehouse 200, and at the third 250. The cost (in $) of shipping one oven
from each plant to each of the three warehouses is given in the Table below:
