Course Reflective Summary

Foundations 1
Alysia Brillhart

It is so hard to believe that this semester is coming to an end. Foundations 1 has been

my very first actual nursing class and I have learned so much this semester. I will most definitely

use everything that I have learned in this semester to continue to build my nursing knowledge.

My favorite part about this class was the laboratory setting. We got to learn how to take

vital signs, such as obtaining a manual blood pressure reading, how to palpate for pulses, how

to count respirations, how to obtain a pulse oximetry reading and how to take a temperature.

Since I have been a nurse’s aide for a few years, this came pretty easy to me, but the skills

check off still made me nervous.

I can definitely say that I learned a lot in the classroom setting as well. I really enjoyed

having Melanie as my instructor and I would love to have her as my instructor in the future. She

did a great job teaching us about the basics of nursing. I am also really excited to be getting

closer to starting clinicals.

Overall, this semester has really helped me understand the basics of nursing. I have

learned to become more comfortable in the new nursing skills that I have learned. I am excited

to continue practicing the new skills that I have learned so that I can be confident in performing

them independently when it is time for clinicals to begin.
