Learning about the past has no value for those of us living in the present

Essay:

Some people think that learning about the past is of little consequence for modern citizens nowadays.
From my perspective, I totally disagree with this statement.

On the one hand, appreciating the past values equips humans with far more diverse experences in life
for the following reasons. Firstly, people stand a good chance of absorbing precious essences from their
ancestors in order to maintain those long-standing values. For example, in Vietnam, the Vietnamese are
inclined to visiting various temples to worship the kings establishing and developing the country on the
10th of March in accordance with Lunar calendar. Furthermore, not only do people acquiring such
values but chances are that they will also continue to promote and permeate a multitude of traditions
and customs to a wider range of humans around the world. As a result, all of the most distinctive
specialities of the predecessors will always be alive and gradually become an indispensible part in
human lives irrespective of which eras.

However, although it is necessary to learn from the past, people need to be selective rather than
immerse in such values and forget the present. Apart from those worthwhile traditions, there existed
lots of obsolete beliefs and assumptions that should be abandoned such as male dominance or
superstition and so forth. Therefore, it is human being that are required to be clever and flexible in the
process of obtaining and improving those values. It is essential to combine the present and the past to
ameliorate the future life; however, only beautiful and graceful customs should it be preserved and
other outmoded ones must be eradicated.

In conclusion, I think we invariably have to observe all wonderful values in the past but at the same
time, limiting and abolishing some out-of-date assumptions are also significant.
