1 SCOPE. This est method describes the procedure w
be used for scribing previously painted specimens, removal of
Scribe line comosion products and the measurement ofthe loss
of adhesion from the srited line due to corrosive creeptack
2 APPARATUS.
2.1 AIR SOURCE. The air blow off equipment consists of
tan ai supply capabie of obtaining an open Ene pressure of 550
‘kPa through a nozzle with 2 3.0 mam round onic. The length
Of the hose between the nozzle and the air regulate is recom
mended to be less than 3 meters and the insice diameter of the
hose be between 6 and 10 mm.
2.1.1 SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS. An enclosed cabinet, a
‘Commercial glass peening cabinet, or a sandblasting cabinet
with a viewing window, rubber gloves, foot switch. dust col
lector and magnotic sample holder are recommended for
panels and smal parts.
Punts too large for the above cabinet may be blown off oatsice
the cabinet sf bariers, baffles or screens aze provided to pro-
‘ect the operator and other individuals near the area where the
air is being used. The guard that is used must be placed
‘between the sir nozzle and the operator
22 SCRIBING TOOL. A straight shank, tungsten carbide
tip lathe curting tool. A carbide industry code E thread cating
to! (or equivalent) is required,
23 STRAIGHTEDGE (OPTIONAL), Any staightecge of
‘sufficient length and thickness to guide the scribing tool in a
Sivaight line may be used. The shank of the tol should follow
the guide in order to ensure a uniform Y cut. The carbide tip
‘must not come into contact with the guide.
24 SCALE. Any rule or scale with | mm divisions may be
‘used. A taansparent scale is helpful for obtaining the measnre-

5 PROCEDURE.

5.2. When a large number of specimens are involved, itis

in a humidity cabinet to avoid any drying eflect. Neither the
