PSYCHROMETRIC PROCESSES

• Sensible cooling: There is no moisture removable from the air. In this process
specific humidity of the air remains same (hence it is represented by horizontal
line in psychrometric chart). However relative humidity increases.

• Sensible heating: There is no moisture addition to the air. In this process specific
humidity of the air remains same (hence it is represented by horizontal line in
psychrometric chart). However relative humidity decreases.

• Cooling and dehumidification: There is reduction of temperature as well as

removable of moisture from the air. There is both sensible and latent heat
removable. For dehumidification air is cooled below the dew point temperature
to condenser water vapour present in the air.

PSYCHROMETRIC PROCESSES

• Heating and humidification: There is increase in temperature as well as addition

of moisture of the air. There is both sensible and latent heat gain.

• Evaporative cooling: Temperature of air decreases as water is sprayed into it.

Water will evaporate in the air and in process absorbs energy from the air. In this
process temperature of air decreases but humidity ratio increases.

• Heating and dehumidification: This is achieved by using desiccants that absorb

moisture from the air. The heat of condensation released during the absorption
process increases the temperature of the air.

• Adiabatic mixing of airstreams: This process occurs when two air streams at
different thermodynamic states are mixed together.
