Saloma’s

Caesar A. Saloma is a professor of Physics at the National Institute of


Physics, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines and
is currently the Dean of the College of Science. He is the foremost awardee of
the ASEAN Outstanding Scientist and Technologist Award (AOSTA) for his
contributions in photonics and signal processing. Saloma grew up in the town of Baclayon,
Bohol and attended the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Tagbilaran City for secondary
education. He acquired his Bachelor of Science, Master of Sciences and Doctor of Philosophy in
Physics from the UP, Diliman in 1981, 1984, and 1989 respectively.

Henry Ramos is a scientist in the field of plasma science. He utilized plasma


technology in the development of a coating technology for cutting tools which
could be used in metal, wood and plastic items for construction supplies, cars,
computer parts, etc. He also published 16 scientific papers on plasma
technology.

Ramos established the Plasma Physics Laboratory at the National Institute of Physics –
University of the Philippines, Diliman. He served as its director from 1993 to 2000 spearheading
various experiments including the development of modern plasma systems.

Currently, he is a representative to the Asia-Africa Association for Plasma Training and a


reviewer in the journal IEEE Transactions in Plasma Science. He is also the director of the
Project Management Office under the Vice Chancellor for Research and Development of the
University of the Philippines System.
