I could not finish this foreword without expressing my immense gratitude

to the many musicians from whom I have learned virtually everything 1 know
about Irish music. Inparticular I wish to thank fiddler Miles Krassen whose
integrity, perseverance, and wisdom have proven continuously inspirational ,
and flute players Noel Rice and Seamus Cooley for teaching me rolls. Without
their assistance and encouragement (as well as many others) this book could
never have been written. To paraphrase the venerable Francis O'Neill, the
great collector and chronicler of Irish music in 19th-century America:

"This book is respectfully dedicated to the multitude

of musicians of all races all over the world who
enjoy and cherish the Melodies of Ireland"
