Lionel Andrés Messi is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as

a forward and captains both Spanish club Barcelona and the Argentina national team. Often
considered the best player in the world and widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all
time, Messi has won a record six Ballon d'Or awards,[note 2] a record six European Golden Shoes,
and in 2020 was named to the Ballon d'Or Dream Team.

Q1) How are your preparations going for the next Copa America?

We are trying our best right now. It’s a tough campaign with brilliant teams and brilliant players
so it’s not going to be easy.

Q2) Argentina was disappointing in the last few international tournaments so what’s different this
time?

Yes, it’s true that we were disappointing before but now we have a well-maintained team striking a
balance between Attacking and Defending. The players are in great shape so hope to secure this
tournament.

Q3) You had a great season with your club side (Barcelona) are you hoping to deliver the same
amount of performance for your country side?

I give my best for both teams. Its true that I’ve had more success with Barcelona but I try the same
for my country too.

Q4) What will be the difference between your Barcelona team and this Argentina team?

Both teams have a different playing style. With Barcelona we focus more on the attacking side
whereas with Argentina we have to focus on our defending side.

Q5) Your contract is about to expire soon. Do you plan to extend it or will you stay in Barcelona?

I’m still waiting for a good offer from the club. We’ll have to discuss all the terms. It will be public
in a few days.

Q6) Who do you think will be your toughest competition in this campaign?

There are many strong teams like Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay but I think the strongest for us will be
Brazil for sure. They have a strong team with the brilliant players and an excellent coaching staff.

Q7) Can we expect to see some new talents in the team this season?

Yes, there are many new talents this season. We are trying to give our youngsters some playing
time.

Q8) What role will you play in this campaign because of the vast attacking options?

I’m focusing more on my play making skills right now because of my age. Its difficult adjusting to it
but have to face reality now.
