Areas of Activities of Media Limited

Digital Printing

SOLVENT BASED

Speed and Efficiency: Solvent printers are generally faster than water based at
producing. Usually 25-50% more efficient than water based. Solvent printing is geared
more for production and is an industrial type machine. They also have wider in
diameter and higher in weight media capacity. Cost of Ownership and Consumables:
Solvent printing technology is designed every day, long-term high volume production
runs. They are built to last, total workhorses! Solvent inks cost LESS than water-based
inks; this is a substantial savings considering it's the most expensive consumable you
purchase! Inkjet media like canvas and paper is one more cost savings component. This
varies of course with the quality of the substrate, and if there's an inkjet coating layer
applied to the base. Solvent ink does not require an inkjet receptive coating, but it will
indefinitely improve the output.
No Coating Saves Time and Money: there's no top-coating necessary with so is the most
important advantage solvent inks have over water based! You print onto canvas, you
wrap your prints, you ship the canvas prints. There's no post treatment with top-
coating canvas prints. You eliminate a huge step of production, perhaps the longest step
if you include lamination dry time for every print. And of course, the waste incurred on
canvas with coating rejects, or the trial and error with rolling and spraying liquid
laminates.
WATER BASED

Extremely Soft Print, Cleaner Prints over Seams, or uneven surfaces Eco-friendly,
contains no harsh chemicals, can be used on Foil applications to add color to the design,
Good washable, long lasting, Creates good distress and vintage effects.

UV BASED

UV inks offer many benefits such as being more environmentally friendly than solvent-
based inks, good opacity, light-fastness, resistance to smearing, sharp contrast, and a
nice gloss. The UV inks, again because of the lack of evaporation agents, will maintain
consistency throughout the whole press run, never getting thick or sticky. Even water-
based inks often use chemical catalyst components that require harsh cleaners to
remove, when cleaning the printing equipment. Cleaning must be done on a regular
basis to prevent the plugging of the printing cells, leading to high costs over time. Thus,
UV inks save time, money, and environmental waste by greatly reducing the need for
cleaning.

Information Technology

Chapter 2: Market Opportunity Evaluation of Industrial
Warehouse Racking Production Facility in Bangladesh

Evolution of Industrialization in Bangladesh

In 1947, the Indian subcontinent was divided into two parts. One was India
and the other onewas Pakistan. Pakistan had two parts. One was West
Pakistan and the other one wasEastPakistan, which is now known as
Bangladesh. The government of thenWestPakistan dominatedthe people
of this country in different sectors. In the economic sector, the
discrimination was themost. Mostof the industries of Pakistan were in this
country. However, the profit from them wastaken to West Pakistan. The
progress in jute manufacturing started in that period.Jute manufacturing
sector is one of the oldest traditional manufacturing sectors of
Bangladesh, which emerged in erstwhile East Pakistan in the early 1950s.
During the1960s and 1970s majorshare of the manufacturing sector in
national income and manufacturing employment wasaccounted for by this
sector. Exports of jute and jute goods were the two most important
sourcesof foreign exchange of Pakistan during the1960s.The
Eastwassubjugated, as all the revenuewent to West Pakistan. In
1971,withthe liberation war of 9 months, Bangladesh became
independent. As after the war,the country was left in dire states, the
industrial development was very slow.However,ReadyMade
Garments(RMG)started during thisperiod.And in this sector,Bangladesh
couldlayclaim toconsiderable success. Today garment export is the main
source of foreign exchangeearnings. Its success was not necessarily
influenced by government policy but essentiallybyoutside forces. It
originatedin the 1970s when the investors of other South East Asian
nationsventured to set up garment factories in Bangladeshandto work
around the export quotasimposed on their native countries by the United
States. In the 1980s,the Pharmaceutical Sectormade advancement in
Bangladesh.Itis one of the mostdeveloped hi tech sector which is
contributing in the country's economy. After the circulation ofDrug Control
Ordinance-1982,its development accelerated. During the 80s,other sectors
liketea manufacturing, leather factories etc also gained importance. In
1990s, sectors like shipbreaking, steel, cement and cold storage goods etc
developed and gained momentum. From 2000to 2012, many industries
started theirjourneysuccessfully, andcontributed to the economicgrowth of
Bangladesh. Among them are-electronics, glass, aluminum, plastic, cycle,
andceramic etc.industries. To sum up the whole thing, we can say that
after 1971, Bangladesh isslowly and steadily turning itsattention to
develop its economy, through industrial development, moving away from
the agricultural sector.

The industrial sector has historically been the sector that has driven
growth as countries havemoved from low to middle income status. This is
because industry can provide high-wageemployment for large numbers of
workers and can raise social productivity by producing high-value goods on
a mass scale. Poor countries can earn valuable foreign exchange by
exportingmanufactured products and the foreign exchange can be used to
invest in newer machines andtechnologies so that a rapid move up the
technology ladder becomes possible. The average productivity of industry
is higher than in agriculture or most service-sectoractivities, so as people
move outof agriculture into industry, Gross Domestic Production
(GDP)increases. Bangladesh as a country with a poor land-person ration is
unlikely to prosper throughagricultural growth alone. Agriculture is
unlikely to deliver rapid growth in Bangladesh becauseof the difficulty of
setting up large-scale farms that can compete with countries that
specialize inagriculture such as Australia or
Argentina.Bangladeshhasnatural resourcesbutthat can be exploited, with
the exception of natural gas. Thus, industrialization and specialization in
manufacturing is the obvious way in whichBangladesh can raise its per
capita income and social productivity. The industrial sector consistsof
manufacturing, together with utilities (gas, electricity and water) and
construction mainindustries, textiles and apparel, jute, sugar, tea, leather,
telecommunications, pharmaceuticals,cement, ceramics, shipbuilding,
fertilizer, food processing, paper newsprint, light engineering, etc. Impact
of industrialization in Bangladesh•Play a major role in economic
development•Providea secure basis for a rapid of growth of
income.•Helpin raising the standard of living•Provideemployment,
meeting high income demands•Brings in technological progress and
change in the outlook of the people•Has decreased the dependency on
foreign resources

Since the 1990s, Bangladesh has done well in terms of increasing growth. It is
apparent that the modest growth that we had during the seventies and eighties
has been overtaken by recent growth, especially during the last few decades.
Even though the growth is sustainable, it cannot be taken for granted.

It is important to mention here that private sector investment used to be the main source of
overall growth. However, since 2010, the private sector input has stagnated, not increasing much.
The amount of overall growth, in relation to the level of private sector investment, is linked to
the latter. We are achieving growth rates now which are not compatible with the amount of
investments we are making into the economy. That is a matter of concern.

As the country moves upwards in regards to prosperity, technological innovation comes into the
picture, with capital-intensive factors being essential. The incremental capital output ratio which
we needed in the past to generate one unit of income is no longer applicable amidst the current
scenario. For example, farmers nowadays require various equipment in order complete their
tasks, which is a vast difference to common traditional methods. Thus, capital-intensity has
increased in all kinds of sectors in the country. The experiences of China and Korea show that as
they have increased their per capita income, their incremental capital output ratio has increased.
This is because labour becomes costly, therefore substitution of labour results as a natural
phenomenon, as more capital is utilised.

That is why the garments sector in Bangladesh is facing issues with labour. In order to maintain
momentum of growth, and the fact that the incremental capital output ratio has to increase, much
more investment on capital becomes necessary.

Three sources could give possible solutions to this problem at hand. First, the domestic private
sector is the main part. Second, foreign direct investment is also there, and combined with the
first, they constitute for the whole private sector (foreign and domestic). Third, public sector
investment (government) is also included. However, pertaining to the third factor, it is not
currently providing value for money in Bangladesh. This means the current 7 percent which the
public sector is investing, is possibly seeing returns at 4 percent. Thus, translation to real
investments into the economy is not occurring, and even the present administration would be
aware of it. The bottom line is that we need to increase the efficiency of investment. Which
means that we must increase the intensity of investment. The government sector's efficiency
levels are low, which is also a concern.
We have a higher overall potential. We certainly have done well, but we could have done better.
In many ways we have done quite well compared to many other developing countries. But we
have not done as well as some of the other countries that have been in similar situations to
Bangladesh. So, in my view, if we could have achieved important benchmarks like investment
targets, revenue goals, a successful investment climate in the country and improvement in
governance, we could have actually achieved a growth of 10 percent.

Vis-a-vis such circumstances, we are struggling to even reach eight percent. Even if we do
achieve eight percent, it might not end up being sustainable. Low levels of efficiency, in regards
to investment, is a factor which is related to this barrier.

For a country to sustain its growth, the whole social fabric needs to be improved. Human capital,
education, health, social protection, alleviation of property, and infrastructure are elements of
that and investments are needed in each section. We need to mobilise our revenues significantly.
Bangladesh has miserably failed in revenue mobilisation. Bangladesh's tax-to-GDP ratio has
been a matter of concern in the Five-Year Plans. In fact, since the Sixth Five-Year Plan to
present time, in spite of targets being set in the plans for an increase in the tax-to-GDP ratio, it
has actually decreased. It now stands at 9.2 percent, which is a huge obstacle for the further
development of Bangladesh. It must change in order for us to graduate to an upper middle-class
nation. The government might find it tough, therefore, to maintain a credible fiscal policy.
During the last 10 years, we have actually weakened our whole financial system. All the
indicators show that we are well below the previous levels of 2010 in regards to the financial
sector. That is not something which can provide good support for an increase in Bangladesh's
growth rate. These are fundamental weaknesses we must work on.

We need huge investments in infrastructure. How is it possible to fund it if we do not have the
required revenue? We cannot fund them using borrowed resources. That will create another
problem. The Asian Development Bank, World Bank are fund providers for us. The biggest
finances are usually being provided by them, including Japan. Every year, projects are funded by
such entities. We are growing, in terms of foreign financing, albeit at a slow pace. Projects
should also be implemented quicker, especially those which are being funded by foreign
organisations. However, the scale of total required investments is somewhere in the range of
hundreds of billions of dollars. Nobody is going to give us such amounts, even though many
organisations, as mentioned before, do provide us annual payments.

Our current total annual foreign aid constitutes for about two percent of our total GDP. Our total
investment required in the economy is growing quickly. The government needs to spend and
invest a lot. Health, where 0.6 percent of our GDP is spent on, is something of note. In industrial
countries, this percentage is usually seven, eight or even nine percent. Bangladesh spends about
2 percent of its GDP on education, which is again an indication of our nation's resource-
scarceness. We must be aware of the need to use our resources efficiently. We are not getting the
right quality of services, and in addition, the infrastructures which are being invested on, are of
low quality. We are, thus, not getting value for money. That is an area which needs to be looked
at.
The export-oriented faction of Bangladesh's industrialisation is dominated by the presence of the
RMG sector. Bicycle export had made a mark, but stumbled soon. These cater to the domestic
market, usually not being efficient. That is one type of industrialisation, where costs are high and
the overall quality is usually low. Tariff barriers are usually put onto goods coming into
Bangladesh, where high interest rates and customs duty are major obstacles. Bangladesh has one
of the highest tariff protections in the world. The average effective rate of protection is at 27.5
percent, whereas, rates of other Asian countries linger at about 4 percent. We even have high
protection on biscuits, an industry where we have been active, locally, for more than a hundred
years.

We are at the first level of the industrial ladder. The garments sector is considered to be the very
first step of industrialisation. Vietnam has now moved to the third level of industrial ladder. This
is the level which includes electronics. The second level, in between, is light engineering related,
manufacturing cycles being an example. Bangladesh has stumbled in the second level, where we
have not been able to make much advances. We do not have anything to show for the third level.
Thailand is producing 2 million units of cars every year, out of which they are selling 800,000
units domestically and exporting the rest. They also export automobile parts, on its own billion-
dollar industry. Bangladesh is an import-oriented country. In our country, 30,000 new cars get
registered every year. So, there is a stark difference between countries like Thailand and
Indonesia and us.

We are at the bottom of the industrialisation ladder and we have failed to move upward. We have
had some flickers of success, like the ship-building industry. Historically, the RMG sector has
been the industry which has been depended upon by almost all countries as the first step in the
path to industrialisation. RMG was started in the United Kingdom, then moved to the United
States of America. It then caught on in Eastern Asia (Japan, Korea, China) before arriving in
Bangladesh. But Bangladesh has been stuck in the RMG sector for the last four decades in its
path to industrialisation—we didn't move up the industrial ladder.

Future of Industrialization in Bangladesh

Industry sector is one of the major sectors for incomesource in Bangladesh.

There were manyflaws in this sector but Bangladesh could come up with
phenomenal results for the enrolment ofpeople and to come out
Bangladesh from poverty though this Industry
sector.Somerecommendations to improve the condition of industrialization
in Bangladesh areas follows:Develop and implement a good investment
friendly environment so that foreign directinvestment increases
hereProper industrial environment should be maintained that will increase
the productivitySet up new export processing zonestoimprove
infrastructural facilitiesPolitical stability must be ensuredPolitical issues
should not affect the industrial activityThe human resources should be
made skilled and more trainedTechnical institute should be set up for
training human resourcesScientific method of management should be
introducedIndustries should look for more technologically advanced
equipmentGovernment should takelotsof steps for building up the Industry
sector; they evenshouldthought to build up a city only for the industries, so
that the people can easily getinto the job site easilyThere is a need to
attractmore investment andproduction in our industrial sectorNecessary
arrangements should be taken to make small andmedium enterprises
(SMEs)profitableGovernment should make rule to put a barrier for import
of foreign low quality productThe Industrial Policy should be implemented
properly and effectivelySpecial economic zones should be established in
the underdeveloped region or lessindustrialized districts with some
subsidies

Bangladesh govt. should encourage foreign investment to accumulate

capital and fortechnology transferBackward linkage and forwardlinkage
industries should be set up in garments sectorwith state supportWages of
worker should be increased to contribute to higher value added
activitiesThe emphasis on Public Private Partnership (PPP) in the
proposed industrial policy islaudable but the concept is still in a
rudimentary stage. Government will need to actexpeditiously to devise a
transport mechanism and frame well-defined rules forparticipating in and
mobilizing funds for the PPP projects.

Despite some progress in raising the manufacturing shares in GDP and

employment during 1990 and 2016, Bangladesh has not been successful in
moving to the next phase of industrialisation. The manufacturing sector in
Bangladesh is highly concentrated around low value-added readymade
garments, and the country has not yet been able to move successfully to the
next generation of manufacturing, especially to high value-added
manufacturing.
There are four major issues which need to be in order for a rapid
industrialisation in Bangladesh. First, there are a number of policy-induced
challenges. The first generation of reform of trade and industrial policies in the
1980s and 1990s helped Bangladesh achieve the current level of progress in
manufacturing. However, returns from those reforms have been exhausted, and
also there are now some policies in place towards the wrong directions. There is
a need for second-generation strategic and dynamic industrial policies aiming at
rapid expansion and diversification of manufacturing through large-scale
domestic and foreign investments. Given the changes in the global and regional
trade scenarios, the need for such strategic trade and industrial policies is more
important now than ever.

Second, a number of supply-side constraints in the form of weak infrastructure

and the high cost of doing business need to be addressed within a short time
span. The initiatives taken by the Bangladesh government in setting up 100
special economic zones (SEZ) as well as the development of some infrastructural
projects seem to address these infrastructural and high-cost-of-doing-business
issues. However, the progress in the implementation of the SEZs and the
infrastructural projects is slow and is yet to show the signs of any "regime
change". A major departure is needed in terms of enhancing the government's
institutional efficiency to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of such
projects.

Third, the current state of human capital is not at all conducive to rapid
industrialisation in Bangladesh. The country needs to attach utmost importance
to improving the existing low level of human capital by enhancing investment
on education, skill development, and health.

Finally, the political economy factors, especially institutional development for

rapid industrialisation, require proper attention. The incentives to maintain the
status-quo are huge in the form of generation of substantial rents from the
existing economic system. The onus now is on the political elites to break this
vicious cycle of rent generation. There is also a need for strong commitments
from the political elites for necessary economic and institutional reforms for a
rapid industrialisation.

Chapter 3: Technical Aspects of Warehouse Rack

Industrial racking systems are metal structures designed to support the goods in a
warehouse or industrial facility. The different types of industrial racking are a key element in the
smooth functioning of a warehouse and play a central role in the logistics and supply chain
operations of companies.

There are types of industrial racking for each situation, storage need or unit load, but all have the
advantage of optimising the available space in the warehouse compared to floor level storage.

Today’s reality, with the growth of online shopping and the need to have an extensive network of
logistics and distribution centres nationwide, makes optimising space key. To meet this need we
have pallet racking systems and picking solutions.

Over the years, the industrial storage systems sector has advanced from adjustable pallet
racking systems to the current reality with versatile, dynamic and adaptable systems to the
needs of each business.

There are various ways of classifying different types of warehouse industrial racking systems;
here we will focus on non-automated storage systems and divide them into two main
categories depending on the type of unit load to be stored: Pallet or Pallet Load Racking and
Picking Solutions for cartons or small items.

Quality Racking Characteristics

It should be remembered that although industrial racking appears to be a simple product with a
standard structure, in reality it is very different.

The design of storage systems from industrial racking is the result of major engineering research
and innovation efforts that make it possible to create efficient structures that optimise the time
and space of companies internationally.

Some key aspects for considering the quality of the different types of industrial racking are:

o Engineering: in the most complex storage systems, the structural calculation, load and
resistance studies and seismic calculation carried out by a specialist technical team are
essential.
o Reliable production process in each element of the structure: An automated
manufacturing process, with control, traceability and quality monitoring in all phases to
offer racking of the highest quality.
o The raw material is the base: using steels of the highest quality standards will make our
racking securer and more durable.
o Compliance with international and local regulations: all global and specific quality
regulations in every country must be complied with both in the manufacture and design
of industrial racking.
o Tests and simulations: all the above key aspects must undergo field tests to certify the
reliability of the racking elements. In AR Racking, we have a Research and Test
Laboratory for this in collaboration with the University of Mondragón.

Types of Racking System by the type of load

After defining the keys for a quality industrial racking system, we break down the different types
of non-automated industrial racking according to the type of unit load they will have to support.

We divide these storage systems into two main groups: Pallet Racking and heavy loads and
Picking Solutions and light loads.

Types of Industrial Racking for pallets

Pallet racking is a type of industrial racking designed to support large loads that will be lifted by
the handling equipment.

We can divide pallet racking into 4 major categories: adjustable pallet racking, compact pallet
racking, live pallet racking and mobile pallet racking.

Adjustable Pallet Racking

Standard Adjustable Pallet Racking

Adjustable Pallet Racking is a type of industrial racking that stores pallets mechanically using
forklifts.

The forklifts access the goods via the aisles that run parallel to the racking, and have direct and
immediate access to all the unit loads stored.

They have a standard aisle width and store a single pallet at the back of the racking, unlike
the other 2 conventional systems outlined below.
Very Narrow Aisle Pallet Racking

Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) Pallet Racking is a compact version of adjustable pallet racking,
creating a higher density and capacity storage system without the need for more space.

This type of adjustable pallet racking is compacted by narrowing the aisles, resulting in a space
saving of over 40%. The minimum aisle width must be 1.5 m in this type of system.

To be able to work correctly in the warehouse with these VNA racking systems, special handling
equipment for VNA is required.

Double Deep Pallet Racking

Double Deep Pallet Racking is a conventional storage solution, but which shares common
features with compact racking.

In this type of industrial racking system, the pallets are stored at two depths, thus achieving
higher storage density. Unlike standard adjustable pallet racking, in double deep pallet racking
the operator does not have direct access to all the pallets stored.

Double deep pallet racking must also be used with special forklifts equipped with telescopic
forks or a pantograph mechanism to easily and quickly access the second pallet stored.

Compact Racking

Compact Racking is a high-density storage system that fully optimises warehouse space and
height by reducing the truck’s work aisles to the maximum.

In these types of warehouse racking systems, parallel aisles are generated inside the structure,
where forklifts can enter and move around for the pallet loading and unloading process.

Compact storage systems are suitable when the problem of space takes priority over direct
access to or selectivity of all the unit loads stored.

There are two main compact racking systems: Drive in and Drive Through.

Drive in Pallet Racking (LIFO)

The Drive In compact system is the most used. It only requires one access aisle for the forklift
and works according to the LIFO (Last in, First out) stock management method, where the
last pallet in is the first one to leave.

This type of compact storage is recommended in warehouses with homogeneous products that
have low rotation of material.

Drive Through Pallet Racking (FIFO)

Drive Through racking needs two work aisle accesses, one on each side of the racking. Works
according to the FIFO (First in, First out) method, where the first pallet in is the first one to
leave.

FIFO is a storage system recommended for warehouses with high rotation products; however,
space optimisation is less than in Drive In racking.
Live Pallet Racking

Live pallet racking is a type of compact storage system that takes advantage of the forces of
gravity and pushing to optimise pallet storage.

Its peculiarity is that using these 2 forces, the pallets are moved inside the racking to their desired
position.

The two main types of live pallet racking are the gravity FIFO Live Storage system and the
Push-Back LIFO system.
Gravity FIFO Live Pallet Racking system

FIFO Live Pallet Racking consist of a compact structure with roller beds at each height that
allow the pallets to slide easily thanks to a slight incline.

This type of system uses the FIFO method (First in, First out), where the loading area is at the
opposite end to the unloading area, with the pallets travelling that distance on a system of rollers
that form a slightly inclined rail.

It is the best system for warehouses that require perfect stock rotation and good use of the
available space.

Push-Back LIFO Racking

Push-Back LIFO Racking is a live storage solution for accumulation of pallets that uses the
LIFO method (Last in, First out) to manage the unit loads.

This type of pallet racking only has one loading and unloading area at the front of the
structure, and the pallets are stored by pushing the previous ones towards the back of the racking
with a small controlled force.

There are 2 types of Push-Back racking systems depending on the method of movement used:
Push-Back with shuttles and Push-Back with rollers.

Mobile Racking or Mobile Bases System

Mobile Racking is a storage solution in which the metal structure is mounted on mobile bases
or a chassis which are guided by rails fixed to the floor.

With this movement of the racking bays only one work aisle is opened for forklift access: the
aisle to work in.

This type of industrial racking has electric motors and remote traction elements that enable its
movement from one side to the other.

The characteristics of mobile racking makes it the ideal solution for cold stores, due to reducing
the total volume to be cooled.

Types of Picking Solutions or Shelving

Picking solutions or longspan shelving are storage solutions for generally less heavy and bulky
products, typically cartons, small items or other products.

This type of industrial racking operates without using handling or elevation equipment, although
it is possible to combine picking solutions with pallet racking systems, making them very
versatile solutions for a warehouse.

Picking Solutions are normally located in the warehouse in order preparation areas, filing spaces
or maintenance areas.
Longspan Shelving

Longspan Shelving allows the manual storage of medium and small-size products. This type
of racking is very versatile and adaptable to a wide variety of unit loads and allows direct and
quick access to all stored materials.

It is an easy to assemble system that allows adding various accessories to its basic structure to
adapt to the company’s needs, such as the solutions for the textile sector.

Multi-Tier Racking

Multi-Tier Racking is a type of manual industrial racking that makes it possible to optimise the
available space of a warehouse thanks to use of the height.

In this storage system, aisle levels at different heights are created which are accessed by stairs.
Carton Flow Rack Systems

Carton Flow Rack Systems are a high-density storage system for cartons and light unit loads.
They enable significant space savings and efficient stock control.

The various light unit loads slide along pulley rails or rollers with a slight incline.

You can see here the comparison between the different picking and shelving solutions.

AR Light Shelving
AR Light Shelving is a type of system similar to Longspan Shelving, but designed to store
lighter and smaller loads.

This shelving can be used both in an industrial warehouse and in offices and allows quick
access to the goods stored.
