Child: Poppy

Setting and context: sharing her lego creation Date:

Poppy arrived today and straight after putting her
bag into her locker. She went to the lego area and
started sorting out materials. “Poppy what are
you going to make with these legos”? I asked. I
am making a very big swimming pool, just like the
one I went yesterday with my sister, she replied.
As she places the lego on the top of each other,
this is the top where people jump from. Poppy
continued designing her swimming pool as she
mentioned “ this person looks after children in
pool!’’ she says. Do you know what we call that
person? Poppy nods, they are lifeguards”. Poppy
finishes her design and asked if she could share
with her friends in show and tell.
Outcome 1. Children have strong sense of

Analysis:
Poppy feels comfortable and confident talking in front of group of peers. Poppy has demonstrated
great oral skills as she used descriptive words and full sentences to explain her lego work. Poppy has
also shown great social skills as present herself and used hand gestures in a way that command her
audience’s attention. Poppy displayed sharing behaviours, after finish telling about her work.

Planning Direction
Continue to this practice of show and tell in the classroom. I believe this helps immensely as through
show and tell children build confidence and pride in their work. I will also take photos and display
their artwork on the walls to remind that their work is acknowledged and valued.
