Grading
Assignments %
Grades are formed on the basis of two criteria: originality and performance.
Students receive detailed instructions (assignment sheets) for each speech via email.
At the day of delivering a speech, students come to class with printed grading forms emailed to them
beforehand.
Excluding the three impromptu speeches, the preparation outline and text of all other speeches should be
submitted to turnitin.com prior the day of delivering the speech.
Class ID 18947608
Students write delivery outlines on index-cards 5” x 8” handed to the instructor in class, after delivering their
speech.
1. Academic Integrity
AUI endeavors to uphold academic and institutional Integrity. Cheating, plagiarism or other integrity
infractions will not be tolerated in this course. Read the University’s Academic Policies and Procedures in
the AUI 2015-2017 Catalog, pages 93-94 and in the Student Handbook, pages 88-89 as well as on the AUI
website:
http://www.aui.ma/catalog%202015-2017_Links%20clickable.pdf
Cheating and plagiarism is defined and addressed in several lectures and courses throughout AUI. There
is no excuse for not knowing the policy. Alleged lack of knowledge or awareness will not serve as an excuse.
Hint: “recycling” your own work constitutes plagiarism or self-plagiarism. It is not tolerated.
Take time and explore what interests you in this course. Your interest will foster your originality. Being
original is fun! If you do so, plagiarism and cheating will fall naturally out of your academic experience.

2. Other policies
Attendance is your academic duty and does not add to your grade. However, each unexcused absence
(even the allowed five) leads to deduction of 0.5 points of the final grade. Reaching the limit of
unexcused absences leads to WF without notification.
An absence is excused only after presenting a document that justifies the absence. In this case a make-
up work would be permissible.
Tardiness is not tolerated in this class; 3 ‘tardy’ lead to 1 unexcused absence or deduction of 0.5 points
of the final grade.
Participation is encouraged and adds to student’s credibility. However, it is not considered
determinative for the final grade.
I do not accept late work.Late work will not receive credit.
Food and cell phones are not allowed in class; grades will be lowered for these without notice.
Any negotiation of grades (in person or via email) is considered a form of “academic harassment” and
leads to a drastic lowering of the student’s grade.
Finally, please note that the syllabus and work schedule are not necessarily complete and I will change them
to fit specific class needs.
