Early warning kit
GENERAL
‘The Early Warning Kit is basically a magnetic plug installed in the drain line. By regulary inspecting the
magnetic plug a malfunction of the hydraulic system can be detected and corrrected and a total break-
down can be avoided. The Early Warnig Kit can be used for MB 800 - 4000. See schematic layout in fig 2

INSPECTION
Itis important that the inspection of the magnet wll be done on a regular basis so changes in the amount
of metal particles can be correctly detected.
‘The magnetic plug can be removed for inspection by unscrew the outermost part of the insert, The valve
insert are sel-sealing and the magnet can be checked while the drive is in operation.
There are basically two kind of metal particles,
- Soft and dark wear particles from the casted details.
- Sharp particles that come from wear or fatigue of the hardened bearing components of the motor.
The first mentioned particles are not as dangerous as the second ones. However they are a sign of wear
in the motor and shall not be ignored, The second kinds of particles are a clear sign of beginning motor
failure,
‘When running in a new motor, the metal content are higher than normal, and the magnet will therefore
tal particles than normal. This may also be the situation when inspecting the magnet the
first time after work has been done in the system.
‘At normal conditions the magnet shall not contain visible particles.Inspection routine
Following points shall be taken into account
+ First inspection after installation, or when work has been done in the system, shall be
done after 100 h of operation. At this point, the metal content are higher than normal
and metal particles on the magnet can be left without notice. Clean and re-install the
magnet.
Recommended inspection intervals are one to two weeks.
‘The magnet shall be cleaned, wiped of, before reinstalling,
If visible particles are found on the magnet, reduce the checking interval to every
second day to determine how quick the motor is ‘ailing. Please consult your service
contact for further action
‘When metal chips bigger than 0.5 to 1 mm can be seen on the magnet, the motor
should be exchanged as soon as possible.
Al parts included in the early warning kit, including inside of the Y-strainer, shall be
properly cleaned after a failure of the motor.
