Discipleship Models

Nurturing Faithful Disciples

Compiled by Evan Burns and Ron Marrs June 2, 2021

Developed Strategies

3DM (http://weare3dm.com/)

3DM trains churches and Christian leaders to do discipleship and mission in an

increasingly post-Christian world. The book to read for an understanding of this strategy
is Building a Discipling Culture by Mike Breen, 2011. The foundation of the strategy is
the huddle: a group of 4-10 people led by a person who is the leader. In this model the
five-fold ministries is a key concept which argues for every believer having a ministry in
the likeness of one of the five groups of people listed in Ephesians 4:11.

Choose the Life (http://www.billhull.net/)

This approach is championed by Bill Hull. Bill’s passion is to help the church return to
its disciple making roots and he considers himself a discipleship evangelist. This God-
given desire has manifested itself in 20 of pastoring and the authorship of many books.
Two of his more important books, Jesus Christ Disciple Maker, and The Disciple Making
Pastor, have both celebrated 20 years in print. Add his third in the popular trilogy, The
Disciple Making Church , and you have a new paradigm for disciple making. The book
to read first is The Complete Book of Discipleship, 2006.

encouraging process that teaches them how to live lives of authentic manhood as
modeled by Jesus Christ and directed by the Word of God.

These are more for resources for future reference.

If you choose one of these books to evaluate you need to discuss it with the
