Supplies
Before you take on calligraphy, you’ll want to make sure you have a few basic supplies. It’s very important to have
the right tools! Otherwise, you could end up with a nib that’s too flexible for a beginner or paper that makes your
ink bleed. Here is my recommended “calligraphy essentials” list:
1. #32 Laserjet Paper - to print your worksheet off on. I use HP brand, and it is awesome for writing on with a
dip pen! Note that you can use laserjet paper in any printer ... it doesn’t have to be a laserjet printer.
2. Any straight calligraphy pen (I use Manuscript plastic pens from paperinkarts.com.)
3. One Nikko G nib - Before you use the nib, clean off manufacturer’s oils that may affect ink flow. To learn
how to do this, see the video that accompanies this worksheet set.
4. Sumi or India ink.
5. A cup of water to clean off your nib - You’ll want to clean your nib every minute or so as you are writing.
6. A piece of non-fibrous cloth - You’ll use this to quickly dry off your nib after every cleaning.
