Notch-Filtered Multi-Spectral Image Sensor as disclosed and disseminated world-wide from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
2) The Scandium Multi-Spectral Image Sensor is a wavelength-specific and amplitude-specific deep-well photosite
image sensor that contains photosites that use a circular design configuration for their sensor wells (i.e. NOT only
Square Photosites but also CIRCULAR in configuration!) to exclude other wavelengths and accept incoming
photon amplitudes of a consistent strength so as to allow for computational photography principles to be applied to
the captured/recorded colour channel values for maximum noise reduction and maximum colour fidelity.
3) This image sensor technology is deep well-based with more than 90% Fill Factor that has a colour band-specific
microlens covering each deep photosite well which is also 2.5x up to 10x the wavelength deep to ensure a proper
confinement of the incoming photon stream so that the photo-sensitive substrates can be electron-saturated to
maximum levels before readout.
4) Each microlens that covers an individual photosite has a colour band-specific thin-film nano-scale coating
applied on the top of the microlens or on the bottom that excludes EM bands outside of the pre-defined colour
sensing range. This means for colours such as Green, we exclude all wavefroms outside of 565 nanometres to
500 nanometres from entering the photosensitive well site.
5) Being a multi-spectral image sensor, there are colour band-specific photosites which are individually sensitive to
the following pre-defined EM (Electromagnetic Spectrum) colour bands:
Each EM band channel is processed via a digital signal processor at 32 bits RAW initially and then Nyquist-
sampled down to 16 bits for secondary processing in uncompressed multi-channel mode.

Notch-Filtered Multi-Spectral Image Sensor as disclosed and disseminated world-wide from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
The original RAW 32-bits per channel signal values are available for specialized applications but for general pixel
computation, it is suggested to use the 16-bits per channel uncompressed output values.
6) All colour channel data from the DSP circuitry is entered into a record type at 32-bits RAW or 16-bits processed
per channel for direct output to the post-processor software and hardware which can then downsample each colour
channel to 8-bits, 10-bits, 12-bits or 14-bits per channel or keep at the full 32-bits unprocessed/RAW values or a
Nyquist-sampled 16-bits per channel uncompressed value.
7) Individual colour channels can be split-off for application-specific tasks such as general purpose live-view and
recorded RGB still photography and video applications, infrared nightvision-specific applications and scientific
imaging in the IR, UV and X-RAY bands. All colour channels can also be mixed together in any combination
for specialty imaging purposes and for optimizing RGB still photo and video capture data.
8) The position of each colour band-specific photosite is designed to ensure a stochastic diffusion which creates a
natural anti-aliasing effect when individual colour channels are mixed together to form a single application-specific
pixel value in a format such as RGB, YCbCr, HSL, CIE LAB or CMYK.
9) A series of photometric focus-oriented photosites has been included on the edges and centre of each photosite
grouping which allows for SOBEL and CANNY edge detection-based vision-recognition and phase-based auto-
focus plus 3D-XYZ rotation measurement of the sensor plane against a viewed object. These photosites are divided
into four-subzones which compare the differences between light levels in each zone against previous frames so that
luminance-based and edge-detection based autofocus can be implemented via firmware at the fastest possible
speeds. The sample rate of these focus-point photosites is a constant rate outside of the frame capture rate for
the fastest possible autofocus.
10) One of the pixel record type formats output are the sensor-processed RAW Multi-Spectral Pixel Type output
record that is sampled from a sensor's on-board DSP (Digital Signal Processor) as a 32-bits per sample RAW data
value for each colour channel within a given EM colour band. These RAW data values are usually downsampled
via Nyquist resampling down to 16-bits per channel and can be further are mixed together and/or sub-sampled into
lower bit depths such as 14-bits, 12-bits, 10-bits or 8-bits per colour channel.

Notch-Filtered Multi-Spectral Image Sensor as disclosed and disseminated world-wide from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
1) The use of sputtered nano-particles-based pure Aluminum allows a minute grid-array of heat-formed
pigmentation to be created on top of a curved microlens that lets a single photosite pass through only the photons
that fall within a restricted EM band range. This forms a photonic notch filter that lets some photons of a pre-
defined wavelength/frequency range through but EXCLUDES other bands outside of said narrow EM band range.
This lets a deep photosite well containing photon-sensitive substrate become saturated with only the photons that
fall within said narrow EM band which can then emit an electrical charge readout at a pre-defined interval time
period that is represented as an integer value of a size from 1 bit (on/off) up to 32 bits (4 billion+ levels) or more in
bit-depth. This colour channel value is combined with other colour-filtered values to form a digital record that
forms a multi-channel colour pixel data type which is used for still photo and moving video image processing,
filtering, viewing and/or recording.
2) Short pulses of Extreme UV (below 122 nm) or Soft X-RAYS super-heat a series of vacuum-sputtered nano-
balls of pure aluminum to form a thin film of varying thickness less than five nanometres in thickness on a
microlens surface that creates a colour band-specific notch filter. The varying time-period and amplitude of the
LASER/XRAY pulses allow one to vary the thickness of the deposited film and it’s planar orientation and/or
polarization such that only a very specific narrow band of light passes through into the microlens for further
refraction/diffraction into the photosensitive layer located at the bottom of the photosite well.
3) The colour bands being notch-filtered-for are the following: Far-Infrared IR-C, Mid-Infrared IR-B, Near-Infrared
IR-A, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Blue, Violet, Near-UV, Mid-UV, Far-UV and Extreme-UV to XRAY
Bands. Other EM bands can be notch-filtered using this method and do depend upon the absorption and/or
reflectivity of the base microlens material. It is assumed that the majority of microlenses will pass through light that
is from UV to Infrared and all in-between visible wavelengths. The microlenses may be made of Quartz, Alon (i.e.
Transparent Aluminum), Sapphire or Diamond for maximum light pass-through transmission capability. Soda Lime
Glass or Boro-Silicate Glass tend to absorb infrared and UV wavelengths.

8-Bit (256 levels) and 16-Bit (65536 levels) Electrochromic or Peizochromic Combined Global
Shutter and Neutral Density Filter System
This invention describes the use of various types of fast-acting electrochromic or peizochromic thin films placed in-
between the microlens structures and the photosite wells which can adjust the level of overall light input on a universal
flat basis across the entire image plane so that the same amount of light passes through the combined neutral density filter
and global shutter system.
The amount of voltage and/or current (amperage) determines the level of overall light pass-through filtering. Higher
voltages and current makes the neutral density filter more opaque letting LESS light pass through while lower
voltages and current let MORE light pass through. (i.e. is more transparent). No voltage and no current makes the
neutral density filter fully transparent letting as much light as possible through to the light sensitive layers.
The electrochomic or peizochromic neutral density filter may ALSO be placed ABOVE the microlenses but on a
practical manufacturing basis underneath is best. The microlenses will also filter light based upon inherent
wavelength / frequency absorption characteristics while the neutral density filter is an additive light power reduction
factor on top of the pigment based colour channel filtering. The manufacturer may test whether placing the neutral
density filter above or below the microlens is best for their end-users and/or or specific applications and also test
which neutral density filter placement least affects overall colour quality and overall image noise.
The neutral density filter can also be used as a mechanical shutter mechanism depending upon the switching speed
from full opacity to full transparency for the filter to match the image capture frame rate of the camera body. Some
formulations of the electrochromic or peizochromic neutral density filter can switch as fast as 100 nanoseconds for a
theoretical shutter speed of 1/10,000,000th of a second which allows you to freeze-frame even the fastest real-world
actions!
Linear and Nonlinear Optical Polarizability can be handled by compounds and structures such as, but not limited to:
Indium Tin Oxide, Opening and closing of Oxazine Rings mated to chromophoric structures, Polarized Lead
Zirconium Titanate (PLZT), Suspended Nano-Particle Device Technology (SPD) and Polymer Dispersed Liquid
Crystal Switchable Technology (PDLC), polymerized organo-sulfur layers, europium rich europhous oxide,
Zirconium Oxide and Tungsten Trioxide nano-wires, nano-slits and nano-rod arrays, polymer electrochromes,
peizochromatic materials, mechanical rotating/flipping micro-mirror devices and others.
Individual microlenses can also be coated on the upperside curved portion or the underside with the electrochromic
or peizochromic layer to achieve individually addressable neutral density filtering and on/off or gradation-based
shutter effects for each photosite which can be set and directed by hardware and software systems to create
"Cookie Cutout" effects or variable and/or soft-edges and fills within shapes such as circular, ovaloid, square,
horizontal and vertical rectangle, multi-sided polygon-shape or compound curve shapes for in-camera blending
and/or transparency effects over an entire image or a specified sub-portion of an image sensor area.
These shutter effects and neutral density filter settings can be selected via a user-selectable menu setting or via
a pre-defined button on the camera body or by an external controller such as a simple remote control slab, a
smartphone, smartwatch or other tablet/laptop/desktop or embedded computing device.
Electrochomic or peizochromic neutral density filtering may also be used in place of a mechanical iris mechanism
to form a computer-controlled digital iris that requires no mechanical closing/opening blades-based light control
system.

This rotating assembly can be of a shape that supports and contains the following number of one to twenty faces
(or more!) which each contain one or more image sensors. Any specified face can remain blank with NO image
sensors attached on the face (i.e. can be used as a blank incoming bright light protection plate):
a) henagon (1 face)
b) digon (2 faces)
c) trigon (3 faces)
d) tetragon (4 faces)
e) pentagon (5 faces)
f) hexagon (6 faces)
g) heptagon (7 faces)

2) The rotating assembly can be oriented vertically with the assembly rotating forwards and backwards in a vertical
up/down motion. This supports cameras that are of a tall and narrow shape. It can also be oriented horizontally
rotating leftwards or rightwards in a horizontal left/right motion. This supports cameras that are of a wide and flat
shape. Finally, the rotating assembly can be oriented on any other angle in-between ZERO-to-360 degrees such as
45 degrees (i.e. as an example!) to support a more box-like shape for a camera housing.
3) Each face may contain one or more image sensors of square 1:1 aspect ratio, horizontal rectangle aspect ratio (i.e.
3:1, 2:1, 1.89:1, 16:9, 4:3 or 3:2 aspect ratio) or be of vertical rectangle aspect ratios such as 1:3, 1:2, 1:1.89, 9:16,
3:4, 2:3 aspect ratio, or be of a circular shape, or other polygonal or curved shape. Each sensor may be of a single
specific resolution (i.e. such as 4096 by 2160 pixels, 8192 by 8192 or 16384 by 7640 pixels and other pixel
resolutions) or may be of differing resolution to support variable pixel density values.
This allows each face to be DCI 4K or DCI 8K resolution or be of lower SDTV 4:3 aspect ratio resolution (720 by
480 or 640 by 480 pixels), of HDTV 1920 by 1080 resolution or be of other consumer-friendly 16:9 aspect ratio
resolutions, or be of super-widescreen 4:1, 3:1, 3:2 or of a square 1:1 aspect ratio for still photography and specialty
scientific imaging purposes.

described software and hardware systems and devices as of Monday, August 23, 2021
Rotating Assembly for Multi-Sensor Imaging as disclosed and disseminated world-wide from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
4) Each sensor may be of the same or a differing substrate type and construction such as CMOS, CCD, Stacked
Photosite, Variable-sized-photosite and other substrate types such as GAN, GaAs, Diamond, Sapphire, Boro-
Nitride, Silicon-Carbide, Graphene, Organic Compound Photoelectric Conversion Photosites, Carbon or Boron
Nanotubes and other sensor types.
5) The rotating assembly is supplied with DC and/or AC power via a single or multiple sets of full-contact pins.
These contact pins may made of copper, silver, gold or other electrically conductive metals or conductive
compounds to power individual or entire sets of image sensors and their pixel data processors. These pins may
also be sealed from physical contact using induction-based current transfer to power the rotating assembly and any
onboard DSP chips themselves. These pins are usually placed near the faces which contain the image sensors and
signal procssors needing to be powered.
6) Near the full-contact or induction-based power contact pins, is one or more hollow tubes, solid plastic tubes or
solid glass tubes used as a one-way (half-duplex) or two-way (full-duplex) fibre-optic data transfer port which can
support single bands such as red, green or blue laser wavelengths or support dense-wave multiplexing (i.e. multiple
wavelengths at the same time) for high bandwidth half-duplex or full-duplex data tranfers between the active
sensors and/or the onboard DSP processors and the in-camera-body or external image processing hardware and
software systems.
7) When the rotating assembly has a single face pointed towards the lens opening, it is locked in place via a
physical locking pin that inserts itself into a depression within the rotating assembly (i.e. activated by the user or
done automatically) OR the rotating assembly can lock itself into place via a magnetic lock which uses positive
field and negative field electro-magnet plates or pins or permanent magnet plates or pins that LOCK the assembly
in place and prevent rotation. This allows the currently selected sensor face to stay in place and keep pointing
towards the lens opening.
When the user selects via menu system, or via an on-camera-body physical button or dial selector, the specific face
that contains one or more image sensors of the desired resolution and/or aspect ratio and/or sensor substrate type,
then the rotating assembly unlocks and rotates in the desired or pre-defined direction until the desired sensor face is
pointing towards the lens opening. The rotating assembly then locks again so that the face containing the one or
more image sensors stays stable and locked-in-place. The rotation speed may fast or slow, or be pre-defined and/or
variable, whichever allows the assembly to not wobble and/or damage the housing and rotation mechanism itself.
The power contact pins and LASER or LED-based data communications ports then become active and can start
activating and running the selected image sensors and image processor chips once the selected face locks-in-place.
8) The rotating assembly may be of any size and number of faces to allow for the required size, shape and type of
image sensor being placed on each individual face or on all faces of the rotating assembly. This allows for sensors
of varying physical dimensions or shapes, and for sensors that are placed at a differing distance depth-wise from the
lens opening. This adapts any given single sensor or set of sensors to variable and/or pre-defined focal lengths and
variable or pre-defined sensor plane distances from the lens opening. This means differing lens types and lens sizes
can be attached and adapted to the camera body without changing the lens itself.
9) The rotating assembly also contains an active liquid-cooling system or gas-phase change cooling system which
will transfer cooling fluid or cooling gas to underneath or within the sensors and any image processors themselves
via a microchannel-based hollow tube system. The gas or fluid will be exchanged with the rest of the camera body
via a hollow-shaft-based system within the centre of the rotating assembly.
