Hardware and Software Requirements of the Online Ordering System

System requirements is a structured document setting out detailed descriptions of the

system’s functions, services and operational

constraints. Defines what should be implemented so may be part of a contract between client and

contractor. Requirements specification is the process of writing down the user and system

requirements in a requirements document. System requirements are more detailed requirements

and may include more technical information. All computer software needs certain hardware

components or other software resources to be present on a computer/server.

Hardware Specifications. The hardware specification is the term used to describe the

requirements of the PC hardware in various environments. On the stakeholder sides, here are the

minimum and recommended hardware specification; Processor Intel Core Solo 1.20GHz (min),
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.3 GHz; RAM Memory 512MB (min), 1GB (recommended); Hard disk space

60GB (min), recommended free disk space 100GB, monitor, mouse, and keyboard.

Table 4.1 Shows the Hardware Requirements needed in the system.

Hardware Components Specification

Processor Intel Core Solo/Intel Core 2 Duo
RAM Memory 512MB – 1GB
Hard Disk 60GB – 100GB
Monitor 19” LCD
Mouse optical USB mouse
Keyboard Computer Keyboard
Table 4.1: Hardware Requirements

Processor. The developed system requires a lot of speedy processing hence a minimum

dual core is required in order to achieve the ideal operation of the system.

Memory. Computer memory is the storage space in computer where data is to be

processed and instructions required for processing are stored. So many data to be process and

store in the system so a minimum of 512MB to 1GB RAM Memory is needed for better

operation.

Hard disk. Hard disk is a data storage device used for storing and retrieving digital

information. It is where the user store files, important documents that are made and other

important business files. The minimum storage device is 60GB up to 100GB to store files and

other important matters.

Monitor. A monitor or a display is an electronic visual display for computers. The

display device in modern monitors is typically a thin film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-

LCD) thin panel. 19 inches is the minimum height of monitor for the user can easily and read

files normally.

Mouse. Mouse must be easy to use for left-handed or right, smooth, responsive optical

tracking that moves the cursor just where user want it. The mouse must ready in no time, it

doesn’t need to be install to use.

Keyboard. A keyboard is the set of typewriter-like keys that enables you to enter data

into a computer and other devices. A computer keyboard makes the installation easier and the

user can use it as soon as the keyboard plug into the USB of system unit.

Software Specifications. The Software specifications are documents which define the

functionality and technical details of a software application or system. Specifications can be

formed after the software requirements are analyzed and solutions are chosen.

Table 4.2 Shows the Software Requirements needed in the system.

Software Components Specification

Operating System Windows XP or higher

Web Browser Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome

Table 4.2: Software Requirements

Operating System. An operating system is the most important software that runs on a

computer. It manages the computer's memory, processes, and all of its software and hardware.

The windows XP is the least minimum Operating System that is reliable and easy to use for

business work.

Web Browser. Browser is a software application used to locate, retrieve and display

content on the World Wide Web, including Web pages, images, video and other files. The

recommended web browser to use is Mozilla Firefox for business works because it eats less

RAM memory while Google Chrome eats a lot of RAM memory that cause the web browser

slow or hang.

Acceptability of the Online Ordering System

To test the acceptability of the system, the developers have showed a survey using the

Average Weighed Mean. The weigh average mean is the result of dividing the sum of the

products of each observed value, the number of times it occurred. Likert rating scale can be used

as a basis of evaluation. The assessment of the respondents for the user satisfaction test in terms

is reflected in table 4.3 that the respondents accepted the user satisfaction tests. This means that

the developed system passed the given requirements for the interface-related of the system.

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Summary

The study aimed to develop an Online Student Advising System for AMA Computer

College Dagupan Campus. This endeavor gave the school, specifically the College Dean, the

opportunity to perform activities more efficiently. The developed system will serve as an

information highway where they can have an access on the information they needed. In line with

this, the project met the following objectives: to determine the current Advising System for

AMA Computer College Dagupan Campus, to determine the hardware and software requirement

of the system, to determine the features of the system and to test acceptability of the system.

The study made use of the Agile Scrum Methodology in designing and developing the

system. The methodology consists of five Phases; Product Backlog, Sprint Planning, Sprint

Backlog, Daily Scrum, and Product Release.

The following are the findings of the study of the College Dean of the AMA Computer

College implements a manual process in evaluating students and the existing Student Advising

process includes manual input of grades and manual evaluation of student subjects all performed

by either the Dean and Instructor acting as academic advisors. The functional requirements and

features of the system were based on the business rule stipulated during data gathering. Among

the requirements includes: (1) To determine the existing process for filing and keeping pertinent

academic as well as non-academic records; (2) To find the hardware and software requirements

of the system; (3) To analayze the features of the proposed system; and (4) To test the level of

acceptability of the proposed system. Among the acceptability questions are regarding the

graphical user interface, validations, page linking and flow of the system.

Conclusions
With the details and findings represented about the Student Advising process of AMA

Computer College, the following were the conclusions drawn for this study:

1. The activities in line with the process of Student Advising are manual and paper based.

2. The data gathered from the stakeholders were used to identify the hardware and software

requirement which served as the basis to come up with the hardware and software

specifications of the system.

3. The features of the developed system would help the Academic Advisors to carry out

their task in terms of storing, managing, updating and searching of student records more

efficiently.

4. The developed system provides a medium of communication between each stakeholder.

Recommendations

Based on the presented data and findings of the study, the following are hereby

recommended:

1. Developers who want to develop similar system of feature needs to improve more the

system and more features to make it even better.

2. System need to be develop with reports on accounts to have backup documents on every

transaction and financial statement of student when needed.

3. System should develop with adding and dropping of subjects feature so that any students

can choose what subject they need and not needed.

4. It is also recommended that the user will use a minimum screen resolution of 960 x 760

to attain normal system viewing.

5. Further study should be made to assess the overall performances of the developed system

with regards to the system’s dependability criteria including reliability, security,

maintainability, and error tolerance.
