Canon Dozet resigned as canon in favor of De La
Salle. At the age of 5, the Saint become the canon
of Reims early in 1667. He received degree of
Master of Arts in 1669. He entered on his course
in Theology at the University of his native city.
But his father decided to send him in a celebrated
school of Sorbonne, Paris. And by 1680, he
passed final examination in Reims and secure the
degree of doctor. Then, he attended a famous
school in Paris, the Seminary of St. Sulpice—
school of sanctity. Ad, Sulpiciam Fathers was
founded by Father Olier.
St. John had a friend and a father confessor
named Nicolas Roland. Father Roland has a
great interest in education of little girls.
Later on, he founded a school for orphan
girls. The institution grew so fast that he
needed to increase his assistants and after a
while, they banded themselves into a society
directed by Father Roland and a community
of teaching sisters, and were known as
Sisters of Holy Child Jesus. Unfortunately,
Father Roland became sickly and died at the
age of 35. But, one of his last wish before
his death was asking the saint to take care of
the Community of Holy Child Jesus.

Nyel accepted the service of the teachers of
7th Century though they are impious,
heretics, ignorant, uncouth, impatient, not
fitted for the position, lack of knowledge
and ill- mannered, because they were the
only available teachers that he could get.
But, De La Salle cannot afford those lowly
teachers. Therefore, he offered to supply
food from his house and train them to
become cultured men and capable teachers.
