Nederlander, The Shuberc Organization, Elizabeth 1 McCann and Nelle Nugent at the Plymouth Theatre, in New York City, on October 4, 1981. It was directed by Trevor Nunn and John Caird (assisted by Leon Rubin); the designers were John Napier and Dermot Hayes; costumes were by John Napier, and the lighting was by David Hersey. The American production was designed in association with Neil Peter Jampolis (sets and costumes); Beverly Emmons (lighting); and Richard Fitzgerald (sound). The music and lyrics were by Stephen Oliver; and the musical director was Donald Johnston. “The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby” is set in England in the first half of the Nineteenth Century.
