Complete Solving Procedure (2)
Write the solving procedure for a task, from the beginning to the end, including the answers to all
questions,
The following requirements must be respected:
«The Solving Steps must provide a detailed explanation of the PM Solution, all required calculations or
added Visual Content.
« Each Solving Step in the PM Solution must be brief. It should contain one complete statement or provide
one new conclusion.
‘+ Visual Content, PM Solver or Block LaTeX must never be the only content of a Step. A Step with these
ments must include text or text and LaTeX that describes them.
The following examples show the application of this rule:

Task:
met RAR Gh ent Me foo cas
22, -Sx +
PM Solution:
The solving procedure for this task involves identifying the focus, directrix and axis of symmetry, and graphing
‘an equation step by step.
Step 1-12: Notice how before the equation is graphed, the Solving Steps are first used to find the focus
directrix, axis of symmetry, and the coordinates of points on the graph. Most of these elements are required by
the task, and all of them are helpful in graphing the equation,
Step 13 (Visual Sequence): Using the obtained information, the equation is graphed step by step in the Substeps
ofa Visual Sequence.

Task:
In Exercises 15-18, tell whether the common tangent is
internal or external.
PM Solution:
‘The solving procedure involves making a conclusion based on the image given in the task. Answers are offered.
Step 1 (Visual Sequence): Notice how the Visual Content is added for better understanding. Textual paragraph
written below explains what is shown in the image. Creating the image is not required by the Task, but itis
useful to include it in the Solution because then, the User has the image and its explanation at the same place

Step 2: The Step contains a short explanation of how the conclusion is reached.
Step 2
Since the common tangent and the
segment that joins the centers of the two
circles do not intersect, the common
‘tangent is extemal.
Solution Step: The correct answer is written as a complete sentence.

10. h(x) = —
PM Solution:
The solving procedure for this task involves graphing the function and comparing the graph with parent
function.
Step 1-3: The asymptotes are stated and the value of the function is calculated in detail.

Step 4-5: The calculation for one value is performed in detail in the previous Step. Even though not every value
is calculated explicitly, itis stated that all the other values are obtained by using the same procedure and then
listed, so this is considered to be a complete solution. Notice, the use of the expression “repeating the same
procedure” refers only to using the same formula, it doesn’t refer to the tasks where sine, cosine, tangent,
cotangent, secant and cosecant of an angle need to be calculated, because for calculating each of those values, a
different formula is used
Step 6 (Visual Sequence): The information obtained from the previous Steps is used to graph the funetion. After
that, the obtained graph is compared to the graph of the parent function.
Solution Step: The required information, obtained through the Solving Steps, is summarized to provide the
complete solution.
