A Brief History of the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence

Friday, August 17, 1945 was the proclamation of Indonesian independence.


After going through a long process, Indonesia became independent thanks to the
struggle of the heroes to finally get it from the owner's hands.
On August 6, 1945, the city of Hiroshima was bombed by the United States. This is
the cause of the moral decline of Japanese soldiers around the world.
The day after the incident, on August 7, 1945, the Indonesian Independence
Preparatory Body for Research (BPUPKI) changed its name to the Preparatory
Committee for Indonesian Independence (PPKI).
On August 9, 1945, Soekarno, Hatta, and Radjiman Wedyodiningrat flew to Vietnam
to meet Marshal Terauchi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Japanese Army in
Southeast Asia.
The Commander conveyed the information to the Indonesian government that Japan
would grant independence to the Indonesian people on August 24, 1945.
Right on this date also the city of Nagasaki, Japan was again bombed by the United
States.
Meanwhile in Indonesia, on August 10, 1945, Sutan Syahrir (young people) heard
the news via radio that Japan had surrendered to the allies.
They wanted Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta to immediately proclaim Indonesia's
independence.
However, Bung Karno and Bung Hatta rejected the wishes of this youth group. This
is because there has been no official statement from the Japanese government.
However, when it was used by the underground fighters, getting ready to proclaim
Indonesia's independence.
They rejected the form of independence that Japan had given them as a gift.
On August 14, 1945, when Soekarno, Hatta, and Radjiman Wedyodiningrat arrived
in their homeland, Sutan Syahrir urged Soekarno to immediately proclaim
independence.
He considered the results of the meeting in Dalat to be a Japanese hoax. On August
15, 1945, Japan surrendered to the Allies.
On August 16, 1945, there were about 15 youths demanding Sukarno to immediately
proclaim independence via radio, but he was refused.
Then, it was time on August 17, 1945, Sukarno accompanied by Mohammad Hatta
read the proclamation of Indonesian independence at a house grant from Faradj
Martak on Jalan Pegangsaan Timur No. 56, Central Jakarta.
The proclamation began the resistance and armed resistance of the Indonesian
National Revolution, against Dutch troops and pro-Dutch civilians.
The Netherlands officially recognized Indonesia's independence in 1949.***
