LEADER’S ROLE ACTIVITY

Objective: To write a personal statement of leadership 

a. Activity Description:  In this exercise think about the daily roles of the leader
and then quickly write down key words that come to your mind when you
think of those roles.  These key words should reflect how you perceive of the
leaders performing each role.  Complete the chart below and then use the key
words to write a leadership statement that characterizes your approach to
leadership.

Problem solver A thinker who focuses on the problem and
tries to synthesize the information and
knowledge to achieve a solution.
Referee (settles interpersonal conflict)  A non-bias leader who listens to the group
equally and give advice to irradicate this kind
of situation.
Communicator  Knows how to listen and answer to the
group/ team
Delegator  Assigns tasks to the team and to determine
each members’ strength and weaknesses.
Visionary  Always has the vision to easily reach the
team’s goal.
Respectful  Respected as a leader by the group/ team
without fear
Motivator  Encourage the group/ team, and to inspire
them and to help them realize their potential.
Task Master  Shares a realistic plan and vision to be able
to help the group reach a certain goal.
Counselor (helps reports with personal  To be flexible and can give action in an

Risk Taker  Understand the growth of change and can
think out of the box, and helps the team step
out of their comfort zones.
Expert  Expert in everything that a leader should do.

b. Write a personal observation based on your experiences on the roles of the


leader.
Being a leader is not an easy task it is a big responsibility; you must have the
qualities to lead a group. Based on my previous experienced as a leader, it is a
difficult task and a lot of responsibilities. You must have the passion to lead,
motivate, and to be an inspiration to your members to do their best in everything
that they do. You must bring out the best of them and to be themselves.
