i The Awesome Eighties Today/s blog isa walk down memory lane. Were you a kd in the 1960s? What toys did you use to play with? What did you use to watch on TV? Did you use to watch cartoons Saturday mornings? I used to love ‘She-Ro, Princess of Power. I collected the toys and acted out the stories with my fiends. Its hard to believe, but we didn’t use to play video games then! ‘A puzzle called the Rubik’ cube used to be very popular in the 1980s. My older sister Linda carried one in her backpack all the time. She and her fiends used to have contests. She didn't win very often, but she loved it anyway. Tis is my mother, dressed for work She used to love suits with big shoulders. She said they made her feel strong, Uke She-Ra, Princess of Power. She used to call this one her “power suit.” My brother Gary and his friends had a rock band. They used to practice in the garage. They never used to study. Gary used to get some strange haircuts. Hes a lawyer now, and he's lost his hai! Remember when Pacman used to be the most popular ‘computer game? A Japanese company brought Pacman to the United States in 1980. In tho frst 18 months, people ‘spent $1 billion on the game. They used to play it in video arcades, on ther computers, and even on special ‘wristwatches! eas 021208, ‘We used to listen to music on vinyl records. The quality wasn't always vary good, but we were used to it never sed to bother us. In 1982, CDs appeared. Then we got used to hearing perfect sound. By the end ofthe 1980s, vinyl records ware out, and CDs were in. sod 0213.08, Computers used to be very large and very expensive. In the 1980 they got smaller and cheaper. We were so different then. Rosa: Ten years? ‘Sanpra: Yeah, I don't know about you, but when I ‘was a kid my life was really different. You know what I mean? I always used to get up really early and I never used an alarm clock. Today, without an alarm clock, forget it. I'd never wake up. Rosa: You're telling me? I can hardly get up with the alarm clock. ‘Saxpra: No kidding! And I remember, as soon as I ‘woke up, Iused to have a huge breakfast; T mean huge—cereal, eggs, toast, the works. RosA: Me too. These days we're lucky if we have time for a quick cup of coffee and a brief look at the newspaper, ‘Sanpra: Really! And when we were kids, we had endless energy. L used to run from morning to night. Now I'm exhausted afier 15 minutes of aerobics. Rosa: Those were fun days. We used to hang out with our friends every weekend and take trips in Linda's car, remember? ‘SaxprA: I sure do, Well, now we're too busy to hang, ‘out. You know, we only see each other once a year at the school reunion. I can't remember the last car trip I took. Rosa: Weld better stop talking like this. Imagine in another ten years .. . Then, what will we say we used to do?
