Problem Statement

Interior acoustic design is observed to be widely considered only as a specialization in

architectural design and construction in the Philippines. It is not a standard design practice in
the country, yet in developed ones it is quite a prerequisite and requirement when working
with all types of establishments. Such phenomenon is evident in many of the existing
structures locally and most are residential in nature. This leaves many Filipinos without any
other choice but to live in homes equipped with poor interior acoustics that consequently
adversely affects their privacy, behavior and comfort.

In an effort to take action on this issue, this study will focus on determining ways of
providing builders, designers and consumers more effective ways of integrating interior
acoustic design into their residential structures. The study argues that addressing the problem
of interior acoustics in Philippine homes through architectural intervention can provide better
comfort and convenient living.
