Our personality is shaped by the atmosphere we are surrounded by. Society indeed plays
an instrumental role in shaping our persona. Likewise the surrounding atmosphere definitely
shaped my personality. I was born in a small village in India named ‘Ujani’, impossible to
have a place on world map. Growing older as raised by grandparents due to accidental death
of father, I was imbibed cultural ethos, morals, values of a typical Indian society. My
grandparents provided all means for a quality education as they are well educated. Currently I
am pursuing my law degree from Dr. BR Ambedkar University, Aurangabad.
When someone grows in a village along with other holly values, gets acquainted with the
so called male dominated societal stereotypes like male domination, women suppression,
gender discrimination and what not. And being a girl when you come across this paradigm,
when you see extensive persecution of women by dominant males, when you see
discrimination between boy and girl like gender based quality determination of sweets to be
distributed on birth, it petrifies the essence of humanity a girl is optimistic about and triggers
her to endeavour for equality. Despite exotic 21st century, women at ground/village level are
not even allowed to come out of their home without the permission of their males, they are
not allowed to put forth their point of view rather they are construed as not worth listening to.
I as a village girl have gone through relentless criticism for fortifying women with self-
esteem. Certainly these ill practices triggered me to pursue Law so I can amplify my voice
against this suppression in the Court of law, the greatest defender of Constitution and rights
conferred therein.
