The Opus Honor Choir is sponsored by the Iowa Choral Directors
Association and is an auditioned choir chosen from all the middle school choir students across the state of Iowa. At DMS, the auditions are open to all 5th , 6th , rh, and 5th grade students. The students learn an audition cut from one of the concert pieces they will sing if they make the choir. The other parts of the audition are singing the major scale and the first verse of" America." This event is intended for the student who loves to sing and accepts the challenge of submitting an audition recording. If the student is chosen to be in this choir, it is a great honor. The choirs are directed by distinguished choral music educators from across the state. It is an amazing educational and performance experience for all involved. There is a 5th and 6th Grade Honor Choir, a 7th and 5th Grade Bass Clef Honor Choir, and a rh and 5th Grade Treble Clef Honor Choir. The actual concert takes place on the campus of ISU (in Ames, Iowa) on November 15th. It is an all-day event with a concert in the late afternoon. We will leave Wednesday after school, eat at a great restaurant, and stay at a nice hotel with a pool. The school day is excused. You are competing against hundreds of other students like you for a spot in this prestigious choir. I encourage all vocal student leaders to take part in this event and remember that it is an amazing experience.
Recorded auditions will be scheduled in mid-September. I will send schedule
information home the week before we record. Results of who made the choir are revealed in mid-October. * Join us on Monday, August 30, 2021, if you're interested. Rehearsal schedules will be: *5th and 6th Grade - Monday thru Friday, 3:15 to 3:45 PM
