TRIPLE CONTRAINTS

ELECTIVES SEM – V
RIYA YOGESH PATIL ROLL NO.:20
VIVA SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE
ACADEMIC YEAR 2021-22
3 CONSTRAINTS: TIME, COST AND QUALITY

Triple Constraint of time, cost and quality or scope must be managed

correctly in project delivery. There are three main interdependent constraints
for every project; time, cost and scope. As each of these constraint are
connected and moving one point of the triangle will impact the other two
points.

COST: The project has to stay within the budget. It includes resources and
budget.
TIME: The project must be completed according to the project plan.
Milestones are immovable. It includes schedule and production rate.
QUALITY: The project needs to produce measurable results. It includes
features, functionality, performance and scope.

The shape of the triangle will not be equilateral most of the time because of
the change in cost, scope and time. For example change in cost of work will
affect the scope and time or change in scope will affect the other two
factors. The purpose of any Project Manager is to maintain a balance
between the three factors to make the project successful.

01 - TIME:
• Time constraint is most important among three which requires proper scheduling, planning,
monitoring, and control.
• While designing the site there were many steps which were time consuming like graphical contents,
visuals, making it user friendly, performing several manual test on various devices and much more.
• As the website is the platform for boundless users, the actual time taken for a project completion
depends upon the user and the task given to the user.
• The project can either take the same time as planned or may complete the task before time or the
user may run out of time. So completing work on time is equally important to the money.
• Some projects are urgent, some are important, so the person buying mentions in the description the
type of the project he wants (urgent, important, not urgent), according to which the user decides the
constraints to be prefered.
• For example if a buyer mentions that the project is urgent and need to be completed in less time then he will be charged a little
extra as the quality wont be affected and will get the desired product on time with increased rates.
• If a project isn’t finished on schedule, it will affect the revenue earned for the task and the user performing task will get less paid.
• To avoid this the user will be notified multiple times before the deadline so that the work would be completed in the scheduled
time. In this way the revenue won’t be affected and also the reputation of the website wont be disturbed.
• There will be certain up-gradation and updates will take place for site maintenance which will be time-consuming.

04
• In case of delay backups plans should be ready.

02 - COST:

• When we talk about the cost of a project, we are talking about what needs to be
applied or assigned to the project in terms of money and effort in order to make things
happen.
• A project’s budget includes both fixed and variable costs as it varies according to the
task given by the buyer.
• Cost in involved in website maintenance and design.
• Content creation for website takes time and money for visual elements.
• Maintaining the websites includes security patches and CMS updates, full web
maintenance, after web maintenance.
• Website maintenance refers to the tasks required to keep your website functioning
properly and up to date. It involves regularly checking your website for issues, correcting
any issues, and making updates. It's about keeping up with security updates, fresh
content, encouraging traffic growth, and making sure your website visitors are happy.
• The cost of the products are planned in such a way that they appear of lower rate than
they actually are. For example if a project costs 200Rs/- then the cost shown is 199/-
which creates a psychological impression in the mind of the buyer that the product is

05
cheaper.

• The is minimal and user friendly which allows one to easily surf the site.
• The work (designs) of the users are first tested, and the ones with good
quality are qualified.
• With given the desired and best quality product, customer satisfaction is
achieved.
• Many updates and up-gradation takes place to improve the quality of
the website.

anyone with less digital skills or with no skills will be able to use the site.
• Quality of work is achieved when all three constraints contribute equally
in the project completion.
