From the Desk of

Robert Hotchkin

Dear Friend,

Jesus promised all His followers an abundant, victorious life. In fact, all of the fullness of
God’s Kingdom is accessible to us in Christ! Yet, many Christians do not access all that is
available to them and, instead, live in fear, frustration and defeat. Ignorance, lies of the en-
emy, and unbelief are just a few of the reasons. It is time for a shift!

Our mind, will and emotions – our soul – play an important part in living in total victory,
in the fullness of all God has. These must be fully aligned with God’s plan and purposes for
you so you can walk in the MORE of God.

In this course, you will discover life-changing biblical truths regarding how to unlock the
divine power of each of these and become all you can be in Him. It also includes an abun-
dance of practical ways and applications to apply the biblical truths in your life right now.

Get ready to live in new levels of victory, purpose, power and partnership with God!

SESSION ONE
THE ETERNAL TRUTH OF I AM
“For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie.”
– Romans 1:25

I. HEAVEN IS A DECISION AWAY

A. The fullness of God’s Kingdom is always available to us in Christ

[1] Ephesians 1:3

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has
blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in
Christ.”

B. God is the Great “I AM”

[1] He and His Kingdom are always great, always present, AND always present
tense

[2] Anything we have ever had or experienced of Him is still ours

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

6
THE ETERNAL TRUTH OF I AM

[3] There is nothing we are looking forward to from Him or in Him that is not
ours already

[4] Knowing this changes how we think, how we pray, how we respond, how we
live, and how we contend for greater manifestations of what we know is al-
ready ours

C. This eternal truth shifts us from:

[1] Waiting for God to do something to knowing that He already has

[2] Crying out for change to realizing we have been empowered by the victorious
Risen Lord to be His change agents in the earth

[3] Being overwhelmed by our feelings to being triumphant in our faith

[4] Pitiful to powerful

[5] Worriers to warriors

[6] Ordinary to extraordinary

[7] Natural to supernatural

II. BEWARE THE WARNING OF ROMANS 1:25 – “FOR THEY

EXCHANGED THE TRUTH OF GOD FOR A LIE.”

A. The enemy will use whatever He can to get you to believe that God is not there,
that He does not care, and that His promises are not for you

[1] Grief from your past

a. Tries to get us to believe that nothing will ever work out

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

7
THE VICTORIOUS SOUL

[2] Challenges of your present

a. Wants us to believe that things will always be challenging

[3] Fear from Your Future

a. Wants us to give up, give in, and quit believing

[4] Wants you to believe God is keeping something from you

a. Used this tactic in the Garden and it is still his go-to

B. The enemy wants us to come into agreement with how things look and feel right
“now”

[1] Pokes at our thoughts and feelings

[2] Stirs up fear, frustration, doubt, offense and self-pity

[3] Wants to get us mired in murmuring, complaining, carping and cursing

[4] All in an effort to get us to choose to think, feel, and act from those things as
opposed to eternal truth

C. The enemy is defeated. He knows it, just as he knows that his only real opportu-
nity is to try to manipulate the gift of your free will — to make you believe the lie
that you, not he, is cast down

D. We must allow the Eternal Truth of I AM to trump everything else

[1] Genesis 15:1 (KJV) – “I am thy … exceeding great reward.”

a. “exceeding” = “meh-ode’” = “louder and louder”

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

8
THE ETERNAL TRUTH OF I AM

III. THIS IS THE BATTLE

A. Every BELIEVER faces it

B. It takes place in the realm of your soul

[1] Your mind, will and emotions

[2] The place of volition

C. You are not in this battle alone

[1] You have a Champion – Jesus Christ!

[2] He is the Great I AM (John 8:58; Revelation 1:8)

[3] He has won this battle for you (1 John 3:8; John 19:30)

[4] So that you can choose to live inside Christ’s victory no matter what
(2 Corinthians 2:14)

D. Example of Moses in Exodus 2 and 3

[1] Stepped out into his calling and it all went wrong (Exodus 2:11-15)

[2] 40 years on the backside of nowhere with little or nothing to show for it

[3] God shows up and declares Himself “I AM” (Exodus 3:6)

a. Wanted Moses to know that His gifts, callings and promises do not expire

b. Because God is always present and always present tense

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

9
THE VICTORIOUS SOUL

[4] Moses had to choose to believe this

a. He had questions and concerns (Exodus 3:10-13)

b. The Lord’s answer to them all was “I AM” (Exodus 3:14)

c. Moses had to choose to believe that his destiny was as present tense as
ever because The Great I AM was as present tense as ever

IV. REVIVAL BEGINS WITHIN

A. We are made in God’s image and are His dominion stewards in the earth

[1] The first and most important realm we must steward is our self

a. Our mind

b. Our will

c. Our emotions

B. We come into the Kingdom by choosing to believe the Kingdom truth of our
Messiah Jesus

[1] It works the same with all of God’s eternal truths, promises and blessings

C. Every miracle and move of God has happened because someone chose to believe
eternal truth over a difficult past, challenging truth or fearful future

[1] Matthew 21:22 (NIV) – “If you believe, you will receive”

[2] The power of the “substance” of our faith when we choose to believe (Hebrews
11:1)

10
THE ETERNAL TRUTH OF I AM

V. THE FULLNESS OF GOD AND ALL OF HIS KINGDOM ARE ALWAYS

OURS IN CHRIST

A. We simply need to choose to believe it

B. This course will help you do that

C. It will unlock the divine power of your mind, will and emotions to bring heaven
to earth

D. So that you can choose to live in victory

ACTIVATION
1. Taking into account that you no longer have to wait for the Great I Am to do something
because He already has, think of (a) specific area(s) in your life that you have been deal-
ing with and may have brought discouragement. Write personal declarations with the
words below. (The first one has been partially filled out to get you started).

SESSION 2

SESSION 2
THE POWER OF YOUR MIND
“Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever
things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report … think on these things.”
– Philippians 4:8 (KJV)

I. THE “GATE” OF YOUR MIND

A. Proverbs 23:7 – “For as he thinks within himself, so he is.”

[1] “thinks” = “sha’ar” = “to act as a gatekeeper”

[2] Your mind is a gate

[3] What you allow to pass through it affect you on very real levels

B. Mind vs. Brain

[1] Brain is an organ of your physical body

a. It controls bodily functions

[2] Mind is as an aspect of your soul

a. It controls your brain

[3] Your physical brain is like computer hardware, and your mind is like the soft-
ware operating system that runs the computer

a. Your brain directs your body, and your mind directs the brain

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

13
THE VICTORIOUS SOUL

b. The thoughts you allow in your mind drive your brain, which then drives
your body

c. Your mind has the capacity to impact your behavior and determine how
you feel emotionally and physically – this affects you, and also has an im-
pact on the people and places around you

i. If you think positive, happy, faith-filled, kingdom-minded thoughts,

it will be reflected on your face, in your posture, your energy levels,
how you interact with others

ii. On the contrary, if you allow the “gate” of your mind to be filled with
negative, bitter, angry, dark, disappointed, offended thoughts, what
you release into your body and into the world around you will be
very different

C. Science is proving about the brain what the Word of God has always known

[1] Many mental, emotional and physical illnesses are as much or more influenced
by our thoughts as by our genes and physical environment

a. Study done by the Harvard Medical School suggests that as much as 75-
98% of mental, physical and behavioral illness can be traced back to our
thought life

b. Many studies in the field of epigenetics (study of the effects outside in-
fluences have on our genes) seem to indicate that positive and negative
thoughts can have as much or more of an impact on our genes than other
external influences like diet and exercise

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

14
THE POWER OF YOUR MIND

II. WHATEVER YOU FOCUS ON YOU EMPOWER

A. If you focus on dark things, you empower darkness in your life

B. If you focus on selfish and carnal things, you empower your fallen nature

C. If you murmur, complain, and focus on how unfair everything seems to be in a

difficult situation, you don’t help resolve the issue but actually empower more
frustration, anger, bitterness, disappointment and injustice in your life

D. BUT if you choose to focus on positive Kingdom truths, then you empower the
love, light and life of Jesus to fill you and flow through you to the world around you

E. The Apostle Paul made this clear in his letter to the church at Philippi

[1] “Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things
are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever
things are of good report … think on these things.” (Philippians 4:8 KJV)

a. He wrote this letter in prison in the midst of awful, unfair conditions

i. Yet over and over throughout his letter, Paul focuses on joy, rejoicing,
eager expectation, the privilege of walking with Christ, hope, confi-
dence, peace (Philippians 1:3, 18, 20, 29; 2:17-18, 24; 3:1; 4:1, 4, 7, 9,
11).

ii. Near the end of his letter, in verse 4:8, he shares how this is all possi-
ble – by choosing what we focus on and allow to fill our minds

iii. Paul spelled it out for the Philippians, and for all of us – if we choose
to focus our mind on good things, we will empower good things in
our lives.

b. Paul knew the power of his mind and used it to shift things for him, and
for others

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

15
THE VICTORIOUS SOUL

F. What we choose to fill our mind with becomes our reality

[1] The Word of God says so (Proverbs 23:7)

[2] And more and more the world of science is discovering and declaring this
truth, too

III. TAKE EVERY THOUGHT CAPTIVE

A. We are new creations in Christ, the old things have passed away (2 Corinthians
5:17)

[1] This includes our old ways of thinking

[2] But we must be mindful of our thoughts

a. We are not to dwell upon the things of this fallen world anymore

b. We are not to allow our minds to be mired in fear, doubt, frustration,

anger, lack, depression, self-pity, anxiety, worry or anything else that does
not line up with eternal truth

c. We are instead to dwell on the realities of our new realm – heaven – a

realm of righteousness, peace, joy, love, victory, provision, protection,
light, an abundance of life and every good thing

i. This is our new portion, reality and truth

[3] We are not to ignore or deny any temporary facts we need to deal with here in
the earth, but we are not to dwell on them.

a. One of the ways we deal with temporary facts is by focusing on eternal

truth

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

16
THE POWER OF YOUR MIND

b. Paul did not deny or ignore that he was in prison

i. That was a temporary fact

ii. But he chose not to dwell on the injustice or discomfort of it

iii. Instead, he chose to focus on the good news of the Gospel, the great
kindness of God, and the faithfulness of his friends and co-laborers
(Colossians 1:6-8, 12-14).

c. This was the Apostle Paul’s secret to seeing even the most challenging and
long-lasting “light and momentary affliction” as a gateway to a greater
glory (Romans 8:18, 2 Corinthians 4:17-18)

B. The way you do this is by learning to take every thought captive and bring it into
alignment with truth in Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5)

[1] The more you do it the easier it gets

[2] It will become second nature and even change the way you think in to a vic-
tory mindset

a. As Romans 12:2 puts it – “Do not be conformed to this world, but be

transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that …”

a. God gives you the ability and the grace to do this

b. But you must choose to exercise this power

IV. BE LIKE DANIEL AND MAKE UP YOUR MIND

A. “Daniel made up his mind not to defile himself.” (Daniel 1:8)

[1] He was one of the great champions of the Old Testament

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

17
THE VICTORIOUS SOUL

[2] He was besieged, captured, trafficked, persecuted, attacked, thrown to the

lions, mocked and more

[3] Yet despite being victimized in a variety of ways, Daniel refused to be a victim

a. He rose to great authority and kingdom impact in his situation because he

made up his mind to think from a godly perspective

b. “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around
like a roaring lion, looking for some victim to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8 NLT)

i. It is “victims” that the enemy devours

ii. Just because he attacks, does not make you a victim

iii. Example … You can make up your mind to not be a victim and
change your thinking from “OH NO! I’m in a battle!” to “YAY GOD,
I’m taking territory!”

B. The Apostle Peter put it this way: “Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be
sober” (1 Peter 1:13 NKJV)

[1] “loins” = a place or region of procreative power

[2] Peter is helping us see that as believers who are made in the image of the
Creator, our minds have creative power that we need to “gird” up

a. ”gird” in the Greek is derived from “ana” which means “each and every”

b. When he instructs us to “be sober” that could also be translated as to

“exercise self control”

c. i.e., it is important to watch over each and every thought to make sure it
brings forth Kingdom life!

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

18
THE POWER OF YOUR MIND

V. THERE IS ALWAYS A SECOND CHANCE, AND A THIRD, AND A …

A. As you catch the revelation of the power of your mind, you may start to remem-
ber all the times you have let your mind be filled with wrong thoughts, negative
thoughts, self-defeating thoughts.

B. Remember … That can all change today

[1] Lamentations 3:22-23 promises that the Lord’s mercies are new each and
every day!

[2] God does not hold one wrong thought against you

[3] He is thrilled you are starting to understand the power of your mind

[4] He wants to help you renew your mind and start fresh

a. Ask Him for help

b. Get in the Word

c. Put on the “garment of praise” when you start to despair or feel negative

C. If God highlights a pattern of wrong thoughts

[1] it is not because He is mad at you or wants you to feel bad

[2] It is because He loves you and wants to help you inhabit more completely the
fullness of what He has given you

D. Our brains have something called “neuroplasticity” and “neurogenesis”

[1] Neuroplasticity is the ability for the brain to change and reorganize itself
based on various stimuli or input

[2] Neurogenesis is the creation of new neurons each day

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

19
THE VICTORIOUS SOUL

[3] This means that if you “change your mind” today by choosing to bring your
thoughts into obedience with the truth in Christ, and focus on things that
are “pure” and “lovely” and “good” and “true” (2 Corinthians 10:5), you can
actually change your brain and begin to program your new neurons with the
new positive influences of these eternally true thoughts

[4] Even if you have been doing it “wrong” for years and years – allowing your
mind to be filled with bitterness, offense, anger, frustration, and other nega-
tive thoughts – God has given you the ability to change your mind today and
begin to shift everything to the good

ACTIVATION
1. Think of the thoughts you have been mostly focusing on the last few days. What have you
been empowering in your life?

_____________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________

Are they the things you want to empower? Why or why not?
_____________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________

2. Write three Kingdom Truths from the Bible you aim to focus on more and empower.
Place these in a visible location as a constant reminder. (See suggestions below.)

3. Do you easily remember to take your thoughts captive and put on a “garment of praise”
when negative thoughts or despair tries to invade you mind? ____________________

If not, think of practical ways to remind yourself: (e.g. written reminders on places that
are very visible to you –refrigerator door, mirror, prominent place in your Bible or jour-
nal, computer screen or smartphone screen, etc.).

4. Write a statement of “pure, lovely, good and true” things you aim to focus on for the next
week. Place it somewhere visible where you will constantly be reminded.

SESSION 3

SESSION 3
THE POWER OF YOUR WILL
“I’ve chosen to live by Your counsel.”
– Psalm 119:73 (MSG)

I. YOUR CHOICES ARE POWERFUL

A. Perhaps the single most powerful tool you have at your disposal as a dominion
steward in the earth is the power of your will

[1] As a born-again believer, the power of your will gives you a global, worldwide
ministry that impacts all of creation

a. We see this truth clearly in Romans 5:18-19

“Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but

Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship
with God and new life for everyone. Because one person dis-
obeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other
person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.”

b. Notice that it does not say that because Adam chose to sin, he alone
was condemned … But that because Adam chose to disobey the Lord, it
brought condemnation to everyone

c. And notice that it does not say that when Christ, as a man in the earth,
chose to obey that He was made righteous (He already was) … But that
righteousness brought new life was made available to all

d. When we are in relationship with God, operating as His dominion stew-

ards in the earth, our choices are powerful!

i. When you choose to walk in fellowship with the Father, you are
blessed, AND you also open the doorway of heaven into the earth
through you to bring His light into the world

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

21
THE VICTORIOUS SOUL

ii. Or, if you choose to rebel and go your own way – ignoring or dis-
daining the Lord’s counsel, word and wisdom – you not only open
yourself up to the consequences of sin, but you also darken the world
through your sin

B. This is why Romans 8:19 tells us that all of creation longs for the revealing of the
mature ones of God

[1] We see in Hebrews 5 what it is to be “mature”

a. “Those who are mature … have trained themselves to recognize the differ-
ence between right and wrong, and then do what is right.” (Hebrews 5:14
NLT)

b. These ones who choose to do what is right are the ones who set creation
free

II. TRUE AUTHORITY IN THE EARTH COMES FROM BEING UNDER

AUTHORITY

A. Jesus models this to us in Matthew 8:5-13

[1] The Roman officer knew Jesus had the authority to send forth the word of
healing

[2] He was confident of this because he understood the power that came from
being under authority (Matthew 8:9)

i. Not just power that comes from having authority

ii. But power that comes from being under authority – being submitted
to a greater power

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

22
THE POWER OF YOUR WILL

[3] The officer had confidence in Jesus’s healing power because he recognized
that Jesus operated in great authority by being willing to be submitted to the
Greatest Authority of All

a. This willing maturity marked Jesus’s entire earthly ministry.

b. It allowed Jesus, as a man, to walk in the fullness of authority in His rela-

tionship with His Father

c. No one has ever walked in greater power or authority in the earth than
Jesus did, because as the Son of Man, He used the power of His will to
choose to completely, utterly and totally submit to the Father in all things
at all times

B. When you choose to submit to God, you are not giving up your control, you are
learning to operate in it

[1] The only real control you have is your ability to choose – what you believe,
what you say, what you do, what feelings and thoughts you allow

[2] Every choice you make is a choice between life and death, blessing and curse
(Deuteronomy 30:19)

[3] Choosing to submit to the Father is not surrendering to control; it is responding

to an invitation to walk in Kingdom empowerment as His dominion stewards
in the earth

i. When you allow the Kingdom to be advanced in you by choosing

to agree with eternal truth and submitting to the Lord, it works to
advance the Kingdom in the earth

ii. All of creation is longing for you to realize this

23
THE VICTORIOUS SOUL

C. The Bible is full of examples of the massive impact believers have when we walk
in relationship with the Lord and choose to use the power of our wills to submit
to His Word and ways in our lives

[1] Daniel chose, no matter what, to submit to the ways of the Lord. This was of-
ten challenging and even dangerous, but it led to him having massive impact
on an entire nation and huge influence over the most powerful man in the
world at the time.

[2] Daniel’s peers – Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego – underwent many tests
and trials, but they refused to see themselves as victims and always placed
their trust in the Lord. Their submission to His word and ways cost them
everything and even got them thrown into a fiery furnace But their choice
to trust in and submit to God brought them through every challenge, and
they were the reason an edict went forth glorifying God to all the nations
surrounding Babylon.

[3] Moses chose to submit to the Lord again and again and again. Even when it
looked like God was not showing up and doing what He had promised. After
going to Pharaoh, just as the Lord had asked, and telling him just what the
Lord had said, Pharaoh did not let the Israelites go. Things went from bad to
worse. Moses chose not to decide for himself what was right or wrong in this
situation, and instead chose to do what the Lord had said – again and again.
Moses chose to trust in the Lord more than his human understanding, an
entire nation set free.

[4] Pretty much every step of Abraham’s walk with the Lord involved him choos-
ing to trust in God’s word, God’s goodness, and God’s ability bring about His
promises in the midst of one challenging set of circumstances after another.
The end result was Abraham being richly blessed, his descendants being mul-
tiplied into countless millions, and all the nations of the earth being blessed.
The Lord spells out the reason for all of this blessing quite clearly in Genesis
22:18 – all because Abraham chose to obey.

24
THE POWER OF YOUR WILL

III. SCRIPTURAL KEYS TO HELP YOU UNLOCK THE DIVINE POWER

OF YOUR WILL

A. Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own
understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make
your paths straight.”

[1] It all starts with trusting in the Lord

a. Trust His goodness

b. Trust His wisdom

c. Trust His faithfulness

d. Trust His power and ability to bring about what He has promised

[2] You do this by not leaning on your own understanding

a. You get over wrestling with not always understanding what God is doing
by letting go of the need to understand

b. It is not that the Lord wants you to turn off your mind

c. He simply wants you to trust Him to bring about His promises, His way,
and according to His timing

d. Trust in His Word and His ways!

i. When you don’t, “Ishmaels” get birthed

25
THE VICTORIOUS SOUL

B. James 1:16-19

“Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good thing given

and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of
lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow … This you
know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow
to speak and slow to anger.”

[1] The way you keep from being deceived (and using the power of your will to
rebel) is to remember that God loves you and He is good

a. There is no variation or shifting in Him

i. You are always His beloved

ii. He is always good

iii. Everything He does and allows is always for the good

iv. He is always worthy of being trusted – especially when you don’t

know what is going on

[2] Inherently you know this

a. Your born-again spirit does not get impatient or afraid or anxious or is

tempted to rebel

b. Your soul, however, can be a different story

[3] That’s why you must be “quick to hear” and “slow to speak”

a. “hear” = “akouo” = “to give audience”

b. When you wrestle with questions, doubt, fear or anxiety

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

26
THE POWER OF YOUR WILL

i. Be slow to give voice (and place) to those emotions by murmuring

and complaining

ii. Instead, be quick to give audience to the Lord

> Bring His goodness, faithfulness, and trustworthiness to mind

> Focus on what He is like when you don’t know what He is doing

iii. It will help keep you from anger – not to mention fear, frustration,
doubt, and all the other negative emotions that can lead you into
rebellion

C. Genesis 15:1 (KJV)

“I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.”

[1] The Lord is your shield

a. For a shield to be effective it must be kept in front of you – between you

and the attacker

b. During challenging times, it is key that you keep the Lord ever before you

i. Be in the Word

ii. Remember what He is like

iii. Let his truth be “louder and louder” than all the lies of the enemy and
questions of your flesh

> “exceeding” = “meh-ode’” = “louder and louder”

SESSION 4

SESSION 4
THE POWER OF YOUR EMOTIONS
“A fool vents all his feelings, but a wise man holds them back.”
– Proverbs 29:11 (NKJV)

I. EMOTIONS DON’T JUST HAPPEN

A. You have dominion authority over your emotions just as you do over your
thoughts and choices

B. Rule your emotions, don’t let them rule you

II. EMOTIONS ARE POWERFUL

A. You are meant to feel, and to feel deeply

[1] You are made in God’s image, and made to feel as He does

a. Because He so LOVED the world He sent His Son (John 3:16)

b. It was for joy that He endured the Cross (Hebrews 12:2)

c. He brought forth all of creation with emotion

i. “Let there be light” (Genesis 1:3)

ii. “light” = “owr” = “happiness”

iii. The darkness that He drove out is “choshek” in the Hebrew, which
can also be translated “misery, sorrow”

iv. We are to establish “happiness” and drive out “misery” and “sorrow”

29
THE VICTORIOUS SOUL

d. When God formed us and breathed “life” into us and made us a “living”
soul (Genesis 2:7) that word “chay” can also be translated as “merry”

i. Our original, God-made state is to be divinely happy

ii. We are made to live in an atmosphere of heavenly joy while here in

the earth (Psalm 16:11).

e. Isaiah 60:1-3 tells us when we realize that our “Light” has come, we can
arise and shine and others will be drawn to our light

i. Shining with divine “happiness” is powerful!

B. When we choose to feel divine emotions – as opposed to allowing other feelings

to hijack our moods – it helps connect us into the heart of God

[1] When the heart/Love of God is brought into a situation anything is possible

[2] Luke 7:11-15

a. Jesus encounters a funeral procession in Nain

b. “His heart overflowed with compassion”

i. He could have chosen to let His soul be filled with anger or sadness
or discouragement or frustration or outrage, but instead He chose to
feel compassion

ii. He chose in a complex moment to connect with the loving, caring

heart of the Father

iii. It overflowed out of Him, bringing heaven to earth

c. The widow’s son was raised from the dead

30
THE POWER OF YOUR EMOTIONS

[3] Acts 10

a. Peter’s heart is in a place where he feels it is wrong to go to the gentiles

b. Through a repeated vision God softened Peter’s heart toward the gentiles
(Acts 10:9-17)

c. The result was revival breaking out and Holy Spirit moving powerfully on
everyone (Acts 10:44-46).

d. Peter was willing to have a change of heart and feel for a people and a
situation what the Lord felt

C. Our emotions powerfully impact us

[1] Scientific studies and research on emotions and health

[2] Look in your mirror!

a. When you are feeling good and positive = see an upright posture, smile,
energy, shining eyes

b. Give over to a dark mood = see that you are quite literally downcast with
a bent to your spine, negative slant to your brow and the corners of your
mouth

D. Our emotions powerfully impact others

[1] Negative emotions create negative atmospheres that can poison or turn away
others

[2] But choosing divine emotions in even challenging situations can have a radi-
cally positive effect on those around us

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

31
THE VICTORIOUS SOUL

a. Paul and Silas in Acts 16:22-35

i. They are set free from their chains/cell

ii. So is everyone else

iii. Plus the jailer and his family all get saved

E. We can shift atmospheres by stewarding our emotions

III. WHICH EMOTIONS ARE YOU PUTTING IN YOUR CART?

A. Just because a situations stirs a feeling does not mean you have to give over to it

[1] “That’s just the way I feel”

[2] No, you have a choice … You actually have control

B. It’s like being in the grocery store

[1] All sorts of choices

a. Some healthy

b. Many not

[2] You choose what you take off the shelf and put into your cart

[3] It works the same with emotions … You choose

32
THE POWER OF YOUR EMOTIONS

IV. NEGATIVE EMOTIONS TO TAKE CONTROL OVER

A. Fear

[1] The granddaddy of negative emotions

[2] A direct result of the fall (Genesis 3:10)

[3] Indication that we have “removed” ourself from God in some way

a. Fear is a clue we are not abiding in God and trusting in His promise in that
situation or moment

b. When wrestling with any negative emotion, ask Holy Spirit to help you
understand what you are afraid of

c Simply turning to the Lord helps because His perfect love casts out all fear
(John 4:18)

B. Anger

[1] We are not to give a foothold to the enemy through anger (Ephesians 4:26-27)

[2] Righteous anger vs ungodly

a. Righteous anger does not withdraw love or break relationship

b. Righteous anger does not punish the person for their poor choices or
wrong actions

c. Righteous anger is against the devil and his works

d. Ungodly anger is selfish anger

e. Ungodly anger is not for a person, but against a person

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

33
THE VICTORIOUS SOUL

f. Ungodly anger wants to lash out, punish, hurt, or retaliate when we have
been hurt

g. Ungodly anger comes from fear and frustration and offense – it serves
self, not the Kingdom in the earth

C. Disappointment

[1] Disappointment is an indication that we are no longer trusting in God

a. We give into disappointment when we feel that God has failed to meet our
expectations of what we feel should have happened

b. Giving place to disappointment indicates that we believe we understand

how to bring about the promises of God better than He does

[2] The great antidote to disappointment is the Cross

a. We get disappointed because we feel like we have been hit with a setback
or defeat

b. To all the world the Cross at first appeared to be a great defeat, but it was
actually the greatest victory and breakthrough of all time!

D. Offense

[1] Offense will take you out of your calling quicker than almost anything

a. Offense mires us in “self ”

i. We don’t like what was said

ii. We don’t like what was done

iii. We don’t like how we are being treated

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

34
THE POWER OF YOUR EMOTIONS

b. When we are mired in self, we are no longer abiding in Christ

c. Offense is the “self ” trying to protect, defend or save itself

d. Offense = “a fence”

i. When we choose offense we create an emotional boundary between

our self and someone else because we do not like how they behaved

ii. This is not what Jesus modeled to us

[2] Offense can be given but it does not have to be taken

E. Self-pity

[1] “You can be pitiful, or you can be powerful, but you can’t be both.”

a. The trap of self-pity is that it makes you pitiful, not powerful

b. Self-pity is coming into agreement with the lie that you are a victim, not a
victor

c. Self-pity causes us to surrender our place as dominion stewards in the

earth who can positively impact our circumstances and surroundings

d. Self-pity makes us defeated complainers who lay down for the enemy

[2] Be aware of the signs of self-pity and catch it early

a. Feeling sorry for yourself

b. Murmuring and complaining

c. Telling everyone what a tough time you’ve had and how unfair it all is

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

35
THE VICTORIOUS SOUL

d. Focusing more on the attack of the enemy than the goodness of God

e. Carping about what it seems like the Lord hasn’t done more than celebrat-
ing all that He has done

ACTIVATION

negatively and positively)? In what ways?

SESSION 5

SESSION 5
THE POWER OF YOUR WORDS
“For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”
– Luke 6:45 (NKJV)

I. A CLEAR INDICATION

A. If you want a clear indication of how well you are tapping into the divine power
of the victorious soul, pay attention to your words

[1] Luke 6:45

a. “heart” = “kardia” = “thoughts and feelings”

b. You tend to give expression to what is going on in your heart and mind

B. God sent for the Word from the depths of His heart and what He was
feeling (John 3:16, 1:14)

II. WORDS CREATE

A. God spoke all of creation and reality into existence (Genesis 1:1-25, Hebrews
11:3)

[1] God spoke and something came forth

B. You are made in God’s image

[1] Your words also create

[2] One of the ways you operate as a dominion steward in the earth is through
your words

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

37
THE VICTORIOUS SOUL

a. Think of the last time you said something positive, affirming, loving and
supportive to someone

i. You probably saw an immediate effect of declaring their worth and

value

ii. They might have smiled, stood up a little taller, etc.

b. Contrast that with a time you lost your temper and yelled at someone,
spoke out of frustration, or said something harsh

i. The person more than likely turned away, slumped, or flashed anger
back at you

c. It works the similarly with the words you speak over yourself and your
circumstances

[3] Jeremiah 1:9-10

a. Your words have an even greater potential for impact!

i. Matthew 11:11 and Luke 7:28

III. YOUR WORDS HAVE POWER

A. Power for good

[1] Isaiah 55:11

a. When you choose to send forth “God words” they bear fruit

[2] Job 22:28

a. Your words can establish the blessings of God in your life

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

38
THE POWER OF YOUR WORDS

B. But also potential for harm

[1] Power of life and death are in your tongue (Proverbs. 18:21)

[2] Enemy wants to hijack the power of your words and tempt you into choosing
to release curses instead of blessings, darkness instead of light

a. He knows how powerful you and your words are

b. You need to be aware of this, as well

C. Mark 11:23
“For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed
and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes
that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.”
(NKJV - emphasis added)

[1] Jesus is mentoring the disciples on how to have radical impact in the earth on
behalf of the Kingdom

[2] Jesus mentions belief once, but three times He talks about the words we speak

a. We know how powerful faith is – the very foundation of our salvation and
our walk with God

b. Jesus wants all His disciples to know the power of the words we speak

i. You words help determine what occurs in (and through) your life

D. Zechariah in Luke 1

[1] Receives a huge word/promise from God (Luke 1:13-17)

[2] He wrestles with faith and speaks from fear and doubt (Luke 1:18)

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

39
THE VICTORIOUS SOUL

[3] The Lord makes him mute

a. Not out of anger

b. But out of understanding of the power of words

[4] Angel Gabriel immediately speaks a positive statement in agreement with the
promises, declaring that the word of the Lord would come forth

a. It’s better to say nothing than to murmur, complain or say something

negative

b. If you do make a negative statement, it is important to come out of

agreement with it and counteract it by releasing words that are positive
and in agreement with the truth of God

[5] Zechariah learns from all this and uses his words to come into agreement
with the will and word of God (Luke 1:61-64)

IV. SPEAK WELL OF YOURSELF

A. One of the most important areas to watch over your words is how you speak
about yourself

[1] You can’t control what others say about you, but you can control what you say
about yourself

B. Remember that you are made in the image of God (The Great I AM)

[1] Do not make “I am” statements about yourself that you would not make about
The Great “I AM”

a. You wouldn’t say that “The Great I AM is stupid” (or sick and never going
to get better, or always broke)

©2019 Robert Hotchkin – Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited and a violation of copyright law.

40
THE POWER OF YOUR WORDS

b. So don’t ever declare over yourself, “I am stupid” or “I am sick and never

going to get better” or “I am always broke”

c. If it is not true about God, it is not true about who you really are in Christ

[2] What do you think about The Great I AM?

a. Do you think that He is loving, kind, patient, trustworthy, abundant, holy?

b. Then these are powerful “I am” statements to declare over yourself

i. “I am … loving”

ii. “I am … kind”

iii. “I am … holy”

iv. Etc.

c. You are not declaring that you are God (you’re not, and aren’t you glad?!)

d. You are agreeing with His word that you are wonderfully made in His
image (Genesis 1:26-28, Psalm 139:14)

ACTIVATION
