Assignment week 3

Prepare a report in which you answer the following questions:

a) What are the three levels of strategy? How are they different from each other?

b) What are the steps to follow to develop a strategic plan?

c) What is a segmented buying strategy?

d) How is a sourcing strategy linked to a logistics strategy?

Development

a) The three levels of strategy are, the corporate, business and functional.

The corporate encompasses everything it defines the business areas in which your firm will
operate. It deals with aligning the resource deployments across a diverse set of business areas,
related or unrelated.

The business level is formulated for specific strategic business units and relate to a distinct
product-market area. It involves defining the competitive position of a strategic business unit.

And the functional level strategies relate to the different functional areas which a strategic
business unit has, such as marketing, production and operations, finance, and human resources.
b) The steps are:

1. Determine your strategic position.

2. Prioritize your objectives.

3. Develop a strategic plan.

4. Execute and manage your plan.

5. Review and revise the plan.

c) Purchase segmentation is a “bottoms up” approach to market segmentation. Market

segmentation tells you the size of the market and where bets should be placed (i.e. geographies
or products); purchase segmentation stack ranks each account in the market based on total
potential and/or opportunity.

d) Because both of them seeks the most efficient manner of distributing goods.
