RICHNESS IN DEPTH

One’s socio economic status is always a big concern, not only from the day they
were born, but also when they grow up and start to have their own family. It is a major
factor that affects their needs, especially how they would fulfill their goals and future in
life. As much as we do not want to be a hypocrite about it, being financially able and
having financial difficulty is a big deal. However, despite this we often see people help
as much as they could even though it is hard for them to do so. This is the main value of
helping regardless their socio-economic standing in life.

I often ask myself what it really means to help someone, whether it is only about
extending your hand, or reaching out, or if it is more than that. I tend to compare those
who are well capable with those who are not and think about who is more able to help.
After that I put myself in the equation. Then I start to realize that helping someone is
more than just extending a hand or reaching out, but is more of sharing whatever you
have, no matter how small, as long as it comes from the heart.

I have this one experience when I was a child, a few years back. Let me tell you
a short story. We went out with our family to go to my dad’s grandfather. It was a long
trip from home, about 2 hours before we finally reached our destination. It was a small
barrio however since I was so unfamiliar with the surroundings, I got lost when I decided
to buy from the market. I had a hard time remembering what jeep to ride to go back and
aside from this, I lost my wallet and was short of 2 pesos to ride a jeep. I was panicking
when I asked from the vendors and they told me to ride the Henson jeep. When I saw a
jeep with a same sign, I gathered my confidence to ask the driver if he could give me a
ride even if my money was incomplete, and gladly he said yes without even taking my
money, and even dropped me infront of my grandfather’s house. I know that this might
seem to be a small help for anyone, however every peso counts when it comes to those
families who are working hard just so they can have the money to buy their foods and
their needs. I was really thankful because the driver was kind-hearted enough to drop
me off.

Being able to go out of your way to help someone, is a good thing, being able to
give help is also a good thing, but giving what you have, even if they are not it excess,
and even if you need them is the greatest thing you can do, especially when it comes
from the heart. Being rich is just a socio-economic status, but being rich with love, care,
compassion, and sharing all of these things to others who you think needs them too, is
the greatest value you can give out to your surroundings, personally or professionally.
