DC MOTOR

Working principle
A DC motor works on the principle that “whenever a current carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field, it
experiences a force”. The magnitude of the force experienced by the conductor is given by,

F=BIl
Where,
F = Force experienced by the conductor in Newtons
B = Flux density of the magnetic field in Wb/m2
I = Current flowing in the conductor in amperes
l = Length of the conductor in meters

The direction of the force is given by Fleming’s left hand rule, i.e., A left
hand can be held, as shown in the illustration, so as to represent three mutually
orthogonal axes on the thumb, fore finger and middle finger. Each finger is
then assigned to a quantity (mechanical force, magnetic field and electric
current)

 The Thumb represents the direction of the Thrust on the conductor /

Motion of the Conductor
 The Fore finger represents the direction of the magnetic Field
 The Centre finger represents the direction of the Current.
