I was

inspired and moved to hear the story of Dr Waheed Arian who was born in
Afghanistan.

In his early childhood, he had to keep moving from place to place with his family just
to stay alive in the war torn country. His family had to sell their home to send him to
the UK as a 15 year old with £100 in his pocket.  He had to work in multiple jobs to
sustain himself.
Despite the adverse situation and coming to a new country, he achieved excellent
grades in school to qualify for Medicine in Cambridge University. Later, he got a
scholarship for Harvard Medical School.

For the last 10 years, he has been extensively involved in humanitarian work to
establish a system by which UK based medics could help doctors in Afghanistan. He
has won the award for UNESCO Global Hero along with several other awards. For
details of his life refer to his wikipedia page.
