Pair Hunt

The unusual clues in this scavenger hunt will give your child practice classifying objects that
go together.

What you will need:

• 8 or more pairs of objects that go together (car and key, fork and knife, a sock
and its pair)
• A favourite toy or candy as the ‘treasure’

Instructions:
1. Select 8 or more pairs of household objects that go together. Examples are the
car and its key, peanut butter and jam, a sock and its pair, pet food and the food
bowl, your child’s chair and his table, etc.
2. Take one item from the first pair, in this example the car key and keep it aside as
the first clue.
3. Take one item from the second pair, in this example the peanut butter and put it
along with the pair for the first clue. This means you will hide the peanut butter
inside the car.
4. Take one item from the third pair, in this example one of the socks and put it
along with the pair for the second clue. This means you will put the sock along
with the jam.
5. Continue in this manner until each clue is hidden with the pair for the previous
clue.
6. Hide the ‘treasure’ along with the pair for the last clue.
7. Tell your kindergartener that there is a treasure hidden inside the house and that
the clues must be followed in order to find it. Give your child the first clue and
explain that for each clue the object that ‘goes with it’ is the answer.
8. If your child is not familiar with object pairs, discuss a few examples before
beginning the scavenger hunt.
