You are on page 1of 1

Dear Marie,

How are you today? I’ve heard you are now currently working for a new project, and it’s a modern abstract
painting. I’ve learned that you are having hard time thinking for a new concept. Well, don’t worry because I guess I
can help you with your problem. I’ve learned so many things here in my new school. My college life in Ateneo de
Davao University helped me become more mature and more appreciative of the things in our surroundings, even of
those with least of spotlights.

Have you heard about patterns? Well, we actually had series of discussions about patterns in some of my
classes, such as in Art Appreciation and Math in the Modern World. My teacher in Arts thought us that there are
patterns existing around us. It’s a series of repetitions or sequence of objects put into existence. Some of these
provide rhythm and harmony to the eyes as they give us beautiful illusionary sights. Our school consisted of different
stunningly engineered infrastructures which showcased various images of patterns. I was really amazed to realize
that these are not just pleasing to the eyes but are also useful and handy in our daily lives.

Did you also know that patterns are found in nature? I know that we tend to overlook at them most of the
times, and it’s a bit of saddening to know that they are given lesser attention by us. During our reporting in my Math
subject, I’ve got to report about the Fibonacci sequence. At first, I thought that it was again another kind of those
boring and dreary topics of Math, yet I was very amazed to find out how interesting it is. Fibonacci sequence is a
series or sequence of numbers that constituted by adding the previous two elements of the sequence- the sum
preceded after the two numbers were added. Yes, I know you are thinking that it’s boring and too numerical, until I tell
you these. Did you know that this Fibonacci sequence is found in nature? Many flowers and plants have this kind of
patterns, and most of the times, it is in a spiral form. As you would have also observed some animals and insects,
such as snails and seashells, they also have this spiral patterns, which each sequential figure are the same or with
proportional ratio with the number sequence in Fibonacci. Also included are the typhoons, tornadoes, and even the
galaxies. Also in some human body parts, this pattern is present. I was very interested when I have found out such
beautiful phenomena. I believe that it is not just a mere coincidence of some chaotic chances in cosmos, but an
indeed well-planned and designed structure by a great artist named God.

I was also really glad to know that these patterns are also the ones that paved way for the inventions and
discoveries in a lot of aspects and constituents of mathematics. Moreover, it is also known that mathematics is the
key language to the development of our technologies and ways of lives. It helped us carry our weights of life much
easier and simpler, and this is one of the privileges which I give credit to the beauty and wonders of patterns.

Aside from sequence of figures that creates pattern, I’ve also noticed that there are beautiful patterns in life
which we only tend not to notice. If you will look around us, you will see that there is a pattern in everything. Not just
the surrounding features, but also those that are only perceive by our cognitive mind and emotional domain. Have
you noticed that there is actually a pattern of events in peoples’ lives? Whatever we do to other people, whether it is
good or bad, it will come back to us eventually in any circumstances. It endows us to do things for others- things
which we also wanted for ourselves, since the pattern of ‘karma’ is clear to us. That’s why I wanted to share to you
these things which I have learned and realized about patterns, hoping that it will help you with your problem in coming
up with a new and creative concept. I want to give you this pattern of goodness which I hope will pass on to someone
who’s in need, and will eventually create a pattern of hundred ripples to others out there.

I may not be there at your side helping you make up your mind for a new concept, but I strongly hope that
these insights that I have given to you will truly help you come up with a beautiful masterpiece. Just go and look
around you. There’s so much more out there waiting for you to see and discover. Set off and make a beauty out of it!

Sincerely yours,

Anna
