“Laying Out a Simple Curve by Chord Deflection.”

A. Objectives
a. To lay out a simple curve by chord deflection method.
b. To mark the points along the simple curve
c. To compute circular curve elements, among others – R,E,M,D, and L if I and T are given.

B. Procedure
a. I and T are pre-determined.
b. Determine the station PI.
c. Using a transit and a measuring tape, lay out distance T from station PI to PC and PT.
Mark points PC and PT with flags.
d. After determining the positions of PC, PI and PT, transfer transit to point PC and set
horizontal angle to 0-00-00.
e. Use deflection angles from line PC-PI to PT to establish the points of the simple curve.

C. Given
I = 78-41, T(m) = 15, X = 6
