1. We request everyone to put off your cellular phones or put them in silent mode.

2. Clapping within any part of the ceremony is not allowed.

I. PROCESSIONAL
As a flaming candle is lit, a cap vested and a pin affixed, a student nurse escalates into a much
higher height of his pursuit of quality nursing education; where respect is bestowed and responsibility is
highly expected.
Recognizing the importance and symbolic significance of a cap, a pin and a lamp in the nursing
profession, Class 20__ of Northeastern College, College of Nursing celebrates its momentous 11 th
Capping, Pinning and Candle Lighting Ceremony with the theme: Raising Standards of Nursing Profession
against the Challenges of global community.

Let us all stand for the processional.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Candidates together with their parents, Faculty members, Guests,
Administrators, followed by the entrance of colors.

IV. WORDS OF WELCOME
Good morning everyone! Today marks a milestone in the journey of Class _______towards
becoming nurses by profession. It is an honor that we are all gathered here today, to celebrate this
milestone with them. To formally open the capping, pinning and candle lighting ceremony of Class _____,
may we call on, Director Lydia B. Billote as we listen to her words of welcome.

V. INTRODUCTION OF GUEST SPEAKER


We are very honored that, today, a tenured member of the nursing profession graces this
occasion to inspire us all. To introduce our Guest Speaker for this year’s 11 th Capping, Pinning and
Candle lighting Ceremony, may we call on the Miss Judith B. Lutrania, MAN,LPT, RN, Clinical Instructor of
Northeastern College

VII. GIVING OF PLAQUE OF APPRECIATION

Thank you very much Mr. HERSON E. SANCHEZ. The message that came across to everyone this
afternoon will surely be an inspiration.

May we now call on Madam Alpha S. Non MSN, LPT,RN, Dean College of Nursing, together with Director
Lydia B. Billote , to give the plaque of Appreciation and the token to our guest speaker.

IX. FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE MARCH

At this moment, it now time to witness the marching of the woman who started the Nursing Profession. She
is so much more than a lady with a lamp. A person that saved so many lives during her lifetime.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Miss Marieva C. Balcita, RN, Batch 2015 as MISS FLORENCE NIGHTINALE.

Florence Nightingale was born on 12 May 1820 into a rich, upper-class, well-connected British family at
the Villa Colombaia in Florence, Italy, and was named after the city of her birth.

She was a celebrated English social reformer and statistician, and the founder of Modern Nursing.

Nightingale came to prominence while serving as a manager and trainer of nurses during the  Crimean War,
where she organized care for wounded soldiers. She gave nursing a highly favorable reputation and
became an icon of Victorian culture, especially in the persona of "The Lady with the Lamp" making rounds
of wounded soldiers at night.

Florence Nightingale's most famous contribution came during the Crimean War, which became her central
focus when reports got back to Britain about the horrific conditions for the wounded

Nightingale laid the foundation of professional nursing with the establishment of her Nursing school at ST
Thomas Hospital in London. It was the first secular Nursing school in the world, now part of the Kings
College London.

In recognition of her pioneering work in Nursing, the Nightingale Pledge taken by new Registered Nurses
and the Florence Nightingale medal, the highest international distinction a Nurse can achieved were named
in her honor and the annual International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world on her birthday.

Her social reform includes improving healthcare for all sections of British society and advocating better
hunger relief in India.

Nightingale was a prodigious and versatile writer. In her lifetime, much of her published work was
concerned with spreading medical knowledge. Some of her tracts were written in simple English so that
they could easily be understood by those with poor literally skills. She helped popularized the graphical
presentation of statistical data. Much of her writing, including her extensive work on religion and mysticism
has only been published posthumously.

As a young woman, Nightingale was described as attractive, slender and graceful. While her demeanor
was often severe, she was said to be very charming and possess a radiant smile. Her most persistent
suitor was the politician and poet Richard Monckton Milnes, but after a nine-year courtship she rejected
him, convinced that marriage would interfere with her ability to follow her calling to Nursing.

During the Crimean war, Nightingale gained the nickname “The Lady with the Lamp” from a phrase in a
report in TIMES.

She is a “ministering angel” without any exaggeration in these hospitals, and as her slender form glides
quietly along each corridor, every poor fellow’s face softens with gratitude at the sight of her.
When all the medical officers have retired for the night and silence and darkness have settled down, she
was observed alone, with a little lamp in her hand, making her solitary rounds.

Nightingales lasting contribution has been her role in founding the modern Nursing Profession. She set an
example of compassion, commitment to patient care and diligent and thoughtful hospital administration.

X. CAPPING, PINNING and CANDLE LIGHTING CEREMONY

At this point, we will be having one of the highlights of this event: the capping, pinning and candle lighting
ceremony

The CAP
- The cap symbolizes duty and commitment. Commitment not only to herself and to the immediate
environs, but rather commitment and a total skill; promotion of healthy people to create a healthy
nation. It also means acceptance, humility, responsibility and the ability to work on any area
assigned to her.

The LAMP
- The lamp is a symbol who gave birth to modern nursing by her caring, compassionate and concern
about humanity. It is a reminder of the art of caring and compassion of a nursing student that can
make a difference on people’s lives. The lamp, carried by Florence Nightingale served as an
inspiration when Nursing tasks seemed almost too heavy to carry.

The CADUCEUS
- The Caduceus is used as a symbol for medicine, a symbol of the Greek God HERMES, who
carried a staff was represented by 2 serpents in the form of a double Helix and sometimes
surrounded by wings. It also means acceptance, responsibility and the ability to work on any area
assigned to him or her.

XIV.TRIBUTE TO PARENTS/GUARDIANS
Parental or Guardian encouragement and support for learning activities at home combined with
parental involvement in schooling is critical to children’s education. A growing body of research shows that
building effective partnerships between parents, families and schools to support children’s learning leads to
improved learning outcomes. Always remember, Parents or Guardians are the first and continuing
educators of their children.

XVII. TRIBUTE TO FACULTIES


Faculty members both Clinical and Academic Instructors play vital roles in the lives of students
inside the classrooms. They are best known for their role of educating the students that are placed in their
care. Beyond that, Instructors serve many other roles in the classroom. They set the tone in their
classrooms, build a warm environment, mentor and nurture students, become role models, and listen.
