OFFER DESCRIPTION
*Technical University of Munich (TUM)* invites applications in the field of

h3. » Catalysis Research «

for two positions of professor at pay grade W2 (limited to 6 years, with tenure track to W3) or W3
associate / full at the next possible date.

*Scientific Environment*

The professorships will be affiliated with the Faculty of Chemistry / TUM School of Natural
Sciences and the Catalysis Research Center. The professorships are supposed to further
develop catalysis research at TUM in the fields of Technical Chemistry and Applied Data Science
and to open up new perspectives in research and teaching.

*Responsibilities*

The responsibilities include research and teaching in Industrial Technical Chemistry with a focus
on Heterogeneous Catalysis as well as in the field of Applied Data Science in Catalysis, as well
as the supervision and support of students and young scientists. Core responsibilities in teaching
include giving compulsory courses and organizing internships for Bachelor and Master programs
of TUM. While the contributions to the teaching of Technical Chemistry will have to meet current
curriculum requirements, it is expected that the candidate for the area of Applied Data Science
with a focus on Catalysis will develop new contributions to the curriculum.

*Requirements*

We are looking for candidates having a proven performance in research and teaching at the
highest international level, commensurate with the respective stage of the career. A university
degree, an above-average doctorate or a comparable special qualification for scientific work,

special pedagogical
An official EU websiteaptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are required. International
research experience is expected. The ability to initiate and lead research projects and to raise
third-party funds should be clearly documented.

One of the professorships should have a focus on the basics and technical applications of
catalysis, in particular of heterogeneous catalysis, considering the teaching profile of Technical
Chemistry. Parts of research can be integrated into the e-conversion Cluster of Excellence and
into other planned collaborative projects (e.g. Collaborative Research Centers) as well as into the
strategic partnerships in the field of catalysis research. The professorship holds a critical position
in the Chemical Engineering program and an has important bridging function to the Faculty of
Mechanical Engineering for the courses Industrial Biotechnology and Energy and Process
Technology.

The second professorship should focus in research and teaching on modern approaches to the
experimental development of experimental design and its coupling with data acquisition, storage
and analysis. This includes the methodological development and implementation of machine
learning, scientific data analysis and the application of artificial intelligence technologies for
catalysis research (Digital Catalysis). Preferably, these activities are coupled with experimental
catalysis research, also using high-throughput methods. The professorship is expected to act as
a bridge to the Munich Data Science Institute (MDSI) and to support and further develop the
MDSI's chemistry-specific (catalysis) education export (anchored in the Master’s focus on
catalysis).

*Our Offer*

The TUM offers excellent working conditions in an open, vibrant scientific community, embedded
in the outstanding living and research environment of the Munich Metropolitan Region and
characterized by a cosmopolitan climate with English as a recognized working language.

The TUM Munich Dual Career Office offers individual career advice for the partners of newly
appointed professors and supports them and their partners in their integration in Munich.

*Your Application*

Equal opportunity is a matter of high concern for TUM. Therefore, we explicitly welcome
applications from qualified female candidates. The positions are suitable for severely
handicapped applicants. Severely handicapped applicants with otherwise essentially equal
aptitude, qualification and professional performance will be given preference.

The application documents should comply with the TUM’s application guidelines for
professorships. These guidelines, requirements for appointment as well as detailed information
on the TUM’s Faculty Recruitment and Career System are available at: http://www.tum.de/faculty-
recruiting. There, you will also find the data protection information on the collection and
processing of personal data as part of your application.
