Based on the foregoing findings of this research study,

the conclusions that were arrived are as follows:

1. There are more female respondents than male; most of

the students belong to low economic status with

monthly gross income of 8,000.00 – and below, based on

NEDA 2017; most of the students are not part of any

clubs and organizations and most of the grade 7

student-respondents have smartphones.

2. The level of English language anxiety of the grade 7

respondents is high.

3. Grade 7 respondents perform satisfactorily in their

English subject.

4. The level of English language performance of Grade 7

students varies depending on the level of their

English language anxiety.

5. Profile of the Grade 7 respondents such as sex,

family monthly income and membership in clubs/

organizations significantly contributes to their

English language performance. On the other hand, ICT

75

facilities at home do not significantly affect their

academic performance in English subject.

6. Level of English language anxiety significantly

influence the English language performance of the

students.

Recommendations

With reference to the findings and conclusions of the

study, the following recommendations are offered:

1. Since most of the students are coming from the low

income family which is probably one of the reasons

why they have high level of English language anxiety

which affects their English language performance the

school should create community linkages and to work

hand in hand with the Local Government of Manapla to

help in providing better opportunities for the less

fortunate students to somehow have better access

internet and other technological learning materials

and to provide more venues for the students to learn

where cost is less.

2. Since most of the students are not part of any

clubs and organizations which is significantly

related to English language performance, the school

and the teachers are encourage to come up with

76

innovative strategies that would motivate students

to join clubs/ organization in school. It is also

encouraged that club advisers be very eager to

introduced the benefits of joining clubs to

students.

3. The school together with the Division of Negros

Occidental should plan out and craft a more improved

strategic training and seminars for teachers to

formulate intervention programs that will further

enhance the English language performance of the

students.

4. Teachers equipped themselves with the necessary

skills and knowledge and include topics on student’s

anxiety during conferences such as In service

Training (INSET) or School Learning Action Cell

(SLAC) sessions for them to be knowledgeable on how

to minimize anxiety and develop confidence of the

students in dealing with English language and other

forms of anxieties.

5. Although ICT facilities at home is not significantly

related to the student’s performance in English,

parents are encouraged to still find means and ways

to provide their children easy access to technology

since during these times of pandemic, it is through

77

these technologies that learning and access to

instructions are still made possible.

6. The Department of Education (DepEd) ensure the

provision of better and quality learning materials

in schools and the study further recommended that

both the school administration and the teachers

should work together to help the students develop

positive attitudes towards the learning of English.

7. For future researchers, to conduct further studies

on English language anxiety and other forms of

anxiety that could possibly affect students’

performance in school.
