Work-sheet

1. Calculate the % of all elements present in Na2SO4.

2. (a) Neon has two isotopes 20Ne and 21Ne which abundances in nature are 80 % and 20 %
respectively, then find the average atomic mass of Neon.
(b) If the abundances of both isotopes are reversed then find the atomic mass of Neon.
3. In nature Cl has two isotopes, Cl35 and Cl37 and its average atomic mass is 35.5, then
find the percentage abundance of both the isotopes in nature.
4. Find the empirical formulae of the given chemical formulae of some compounds:
(i) C2H6 (ii) C2H4 (iii) C2H2
(iv) C6H6 (v) C6H12O6 (vi) NH3
(vii) CO2 (viii) CH3COOH (ix) C2H5OH
(x) CH4
5. If a hydrocarbon (compounds made up of carbon and hydrogen only) contains 75%
carbon and 25% hydrogen then find empirical formula of the compound.
6. If a compound has 1.6 % of Sulphur then calculate its minimum molecular mass possible.
7. A haemoglobin molecule (mol mass 67200) has 0.33 % Iron than find the no of Fe atoms
present in one molecule of haemoglobin. (Atomic mass of Fe is 56)
