Writing a College Application Letter and Application Letter for Employment or Cover Letter, as

you have observed are quite similar with the purpose and the content, the most important
difference is to whom it is addressed; where, the first is addressed to school heads while the latter
is for possible employers.

Please Note the important reminders in writing both letters:

1) Purpose – to impress, leave a good impression to the receiver

2) Impression – you leave them a good impression by not only building yourself but letting them
see that you are really INTERESTED in their school/company specifically
3) Content – write your strengths, all those you think are unique about you, don’t be too flowery
though, it may sound too good to be true. If in the future, you’re a fresh grad and can’t include a
lot of experiences, don’t forget to consider all of the sports or clubs or activities you have joined,
that counts.
4) Simplicity – remember that there are hundreds if not thousands of letters that they would have
to read, so make it simple yet striking, not long and too informative ones.
5) Tone – Please remember that though it is in writing, you should sound polite and professional
and not demanding or too proud or boastful.
6) Recycle Not – this is for future references--this is the time that recycling should not be used.
Do not write generic letters and juts change the name of the company. Give time to write original
ones when you are considering more than one school/company.
